Human Biology Specialist Division: Vice President Academic Affairs (DIV) Department: Tutoring & Learning Services Job Description This position is responsible for acting as a professional tutor and providing individualized and small group assistance to students experiencing difficulty with basic principles and concepts related to the biology of the human body and living organisms. Essential Job Functions Conduct sessions on general science knowledge to aid students with courses, lab preparation, and successful completion of exams. Emphasize and promote problem‑solving, decision‑making, and critical‑thinking skills. Assist students in assessing progress, determining goals, strengths, and needs, and accommodate as necessary. Advise students on effective study skills and habits. Encourage positive self‑concept development and orientation toward learning. Maintain accurate records on assigned students and submit reports as required. Assist students with the use of various learning systems. Coordinate and monitor services provided to program participants. Refer special problems to appropriate individuals (e.g., coordinator, counselor, instructor). Prepare and lead workshops for students. Meet with instructors to receive up-to-date course information and materials. Prepare practice quizzes and exams for individualized learning and success. Other Job Functions Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and professional organizations as required. Maintain and develop work‑related knowledge, skills, and competencies through professional development and cross‑training opportunities. Keep up-to-date with professional credentials, best practices, and current disciplines, including continuing education requirements through certifications, seminars, and training programs. Perform additional grade‑level duties as assigned. Skills Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace products. Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS). Proficient verbal and written communication skills. Ability to consistently provide excellent customer service. Ability to respond professionally to unpredictability. Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments, managing multiple projects and tasks concurrently and meeting varied deadlines. Meticulous record‑keeping skills. Ability to identify problems, make corrective recommendations, and assist with the problem‑solving process. Required Qualifications Associate degree in Human Biology or a related field. Prior work performance meeting or exceeding appropriate work standards. Preferred Qualifications Related work experience in higher education working with at‑risk students.
