Join the MasTec family and help us provide the highest level of quality service to our customers and communities while maintaining our commitment to safety!ResponsibilitiesAs a Heavy Equipment Operator on our Long Haul Travel crew, you will support all phases of utility construction for various types of telecom projects, traveling nationwide. You believe in doing the job right. Being the best. And you're up for the challenge.In addition, you will:Put safety first by following all company, OSHA, and job-site requirements, maintaining awareness of underground and overhead hazards, and using required PPEOperate heavy equipment for aerial and underground (UGE) long-haul fiber construction, including backhoes, dozers, excavators, cable plows, trenchers, hydraulic reel trailers, PlowCat/PullCat, and other construction machineryPerform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance to keep machinery safe and job-readyRead and understand utility locates, above-ground utility indicators, and construction plans to protect the crew, public, and existing utilitiesWork alongside the crew when not operating equipment, assisting with general construction, material handling, site preparation, and other tasks as neededTroubleshoot equipment and field issues and communicate safety concerns promptlyMaintain a clean, organized work area and support crew productivity and qualityPerform other duties as assignedQualificationsAbout You:Safety is part of your day-to-day, and you take pride in doing the job safely and correctlyYou have 2+ years of construction-site heavy equipment experience, including experience operating a dozer and/or backhoeYou have experience working around existing underground and overhead utilities and understand the importance of utility locates and safe digging practicesYou take pride in quality work, have strong problem-solving skills, and enjoy a hands-on approachYou can read and understand blueprints, construction plans, and utility locatesYou enjoy working as part of a team and are willing to get your hands dirty and work alongside the crew when neededYou're looking for long-term projects and growth opportunitiesYou have a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a DOT medical card (CDL is highly preferred)You are comfortable traveling to projects throughout the U.S.Open to travel nationwide 7 days a week, per diem, 4-5 weeks on, and 5 days off on a rotating schedule (50+ hours per week, depending on the weather), and working overtime consistentlyMOS Codes 12N, 12V, 21E, and 21J relate well to this position.Compensation of $26-$35 per hour, based on licenses and experience.Hard work pays off.
