Key Responsibilities Respond to inquiries from physicians, nurses, hospital staff, and other healthcare professionals through the Congenital Syphilis Prevention Hotline. Offer evidence‑based recommendations and clarifications on syphilis and congenital syphilis management, treatment protocols, and reporting requirements. Coordinate with regional congenital syphilis nurses to ensure appropriate follow‑up for specific cases. Assist with development and modification of policies, procedures, and protocols related to congenital syphilis prevention and care. Participate in creation and delivery of written and verbal program communications and educational materials for healthcare providers and stakeholders. Support program enhancements aimed at improving efficiency and service evaluation. Attend consultant meetings, educational workshops, and symposiums relevant to congenital syphilis prevention and treatment. Perform on‑call duties during holidays and weekends on a rotating basis. Essential Job Functions Attends work on a regular schedule and performs other duties as assigned (40%). Provides professional consultation to healthcare providers regarding congenital syphilis diagnosis, treatment, and management; coordinates with regional nurses and maintains close liaison with other state and agency programs (25%). Provides follow‑up for women of childbearing age and infants with syphilis diagnoses, maintains case management notes, and submits required reports (15%). Answers inquiries about complex cases, offers up‑to‑date guidance, and assigns tasks to field nurses for follow‑up (15%). Develops and provides educational resources and literature to providers, participates in planning and execution of consultant workgroup meetings, and performs other program support activities (5%). Certifications Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Texas. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Knowledge of nursing techniques, medical diagnoses, procedures, and community health principles. Knowledge of health care laws, regulations, and public health statutes. Medical knowledge of syphilis, congenital syphilis, and other STIs; knowledge of recommended treatments. Knowledge of statistical data collection methods and medical care resources in Texas. Skill in patient care, use of electronic medical record systems, internet, and Microsoft Office suite. Strong oral and written communication, problem‑solving, and organizational skills. Ability to provide consultation, interpret policies, coordinate care, manage confidential information, and handle multiple tasks/projects. Initial Screening Criteria At least 1 year of experience managing acquired syphilis (preferred). At least 1 year of experience communicating program policy, procedures, and medical reports/tests via telephone. At least 1 year of experience handling confidential medical records in compliance with state and federal laws, including HIPAA. At least 1 year of experience using computer systems and databases, Microsoft Word and Excel. Hours of Operation Regular Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM (Days). Lunch Break: 30 minutes. May be required to work alternate weekends on a rotating schedule. Salary and Compensation Salary follows DSHS starting salary guidelines; offer contingent on budgeted funds.
