Job Description

The CMM Operator performs daily incoming, in-process, and final inspection of precision parts to ensure they meet customer and internal quality requirements. This role relies on strong metrology skills, careful documentation, and close collaboration with production and quality teams while consistently upholding core values of quality, safety, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspection of parts on a daily basis using manual and CMM inspection methods.
• Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and work orders to determine inspection requirements.
• Follow customer specifications and drawing requirements to ensure all inspection criteria are fully satisfied.
• Conduct inspections using microscopes and a variety of precision measurement tools.
• Prepare and complete first-article inspection reports using appropriate inspection equipment and techniques.
• Document and record inspection results accurately and maintain both hard copy and electronic records in an organized manner.
• Initiate nonconformance reports (NCRs) for all nonconforming material and ensure proper documentation and communication.
• Work closely with the Quality Control Supervisor and Scheduling team to support efficient production flow and prioritization of work.
• Use Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and an ERP/MIS system to enter, track, and report inspection data.
• Apply a strong understanding of GD&T to evaluate part features and tolerances.
• Support and comply with company objectives, quality and safety guidelines, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate effectively and cooperatively with team members at all levels to resolve quality issues and improve processes.
• Complete assignments within specified timeframes while managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Maintain adherence to company core values and promote a culture of transparency, collaboration, and safety.
• Work overtime in the evenings and weekends when required to meet production and project deadlines.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support production, quality, and organizational goals.

Essential Skills

• Ability to perform incoming, in-process, and final inspection of parts using manual and CMM inspection methods.
• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and work orders.
• Solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Manual and/or CMM inspection experience, including first-article inspections.
• Proficiency using micrometers, calipers, and other precision inspection tools.
• Practical knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Familiarity with Epicor ERP 10 or a similar management/manufacturing information system.
• Ability to follow instructions and procedures and work with minimal supervision.
• Capability to inspect work being performed and verify conformance to specifications.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in CNC-type machine setup, operation, and diagnostics.
• At least 7 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Experience working in an AS9100 environment (preferred).
• Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Willingness and ability to work 2nd shift and to work overtime in the evenings and weekends as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with CNC environments, including setup, production, and mechanical assembly.
• Assembly, production, mechanical assembly, and assembly line work.
• Experience with wiring and related assembly tasks.
• Comfort working with ERP and manufacturing information systems beyond Epicor.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation and recordkeeping.
• Demonstrated commitment to quality, safety, continual improvement, transparency, and collaboration.
• Ability to interact effectively and cooperatively with team members at all levels of the organization.
• Flexibility regarding working hours, including the ability to support weekday and weekend shifts as needed.

Work Environment

This role operates primarily in a manufacturing environment on 2nd shift, typically Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., with an additional weekend shift option (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). Team members regularly work around moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to hot or cold conditions, chemicals, fumes or airborne particles, loud noise, vibration, risk of electrical shock, and other occupational hazards. Personal protective equipment may be required and is expected to be used consistently. The environment is fast-paced and production-driven, requiring the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. Work involves frequent use of precision inspection tools, microscopes, CNC-related equipment, computers, and ERP systems while adhering to established safety and quality procedures.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jessup, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $31.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
