Plant Utilities Engineer 1 (NY HELPS) - 12914

We are seeking a Plant Utilities Engineer 1 to operate, maintain, and repair mechanical and electrical equipment supporting plant heat, steam, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning, and electrical distribution. The engineer will work safely and efficiently, may supervise Plant Utilities Assistants, helpers, contractors, and tradespeople, and must be trained for confined space work. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Transfer opportunity for NYS employees with one year or more of permanent or contingent‑permanent service as a Plant Utilities Engineer 1 (G‑14) eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with the specialized needs of a health‑related or laboratory facility, including energy conservation methodology, laboratory capital equipment, specialized HVAC and building management systems, capital planning, preventive maintenance, emergency response, backup power, supervision, shift work, procurement, arc flash and lockout‑tagout procedures, and universal refrigeration certification. Additional Comments Permanent, full‑time appointment. Exposure to hazardous substances may require personal protective equipment, health evaluations, and immunizations. Requires a valid, unrestricted NYS motor vehicle license and may require Dept. of Environmental Conservation certifications. 24/7 shift operation with bidding and potential overtime.
