This role schedules and participates in humane education school visits, coordinates staff and volunteer training, and serves as the content expert for HSPPR's operations training curriculum. Working across all departments, the Education and Training coordinator ensures every training and lesson reflects HSPPR's mission, values, and standard of compassionate care. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a dynamic environment, balancing administrative precision with mission-driven work supporting animal welfare and humane education initiatives. HSPPR's Mission Statement: HSPPR offers compassionate care to animals, supports safe communities, and provides socially conscious sheltering. The Humane Education and Training Coordinator supports HSPPR's mission by ensuring staff, volunteers, and community members have the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to provide compassionate animal care and promote humane treatment. Through coordinating training programs, supporting humane education initiatives, and fostering consistent operational practices across the organization, this role strengthens HSPPR's ability to deliver socially conscious sheltering, support safe communities, and enhance the well-being of animals and the people who care for them.Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesTraining and Program SupportCoordinates shelter operations-based learning programs to support onboarding and ongoing staff development, as well as volunteer training. Facilitate Train-the-Trainer opportunities to build and promote a culture of learning. Collaborate with departments to develop new hire plans based on the needs of the organization, department, and employees. Assist supervisors and trainers in keeping Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training documentation up-to-date. Ensure Standard Operating Procedures library stays current, organized, and accessible. Train employees in the use of the library to ensure a consistent workflow and skill base. Align education and training efforts with operational goals and schedules, adapting as needed to support departmental initiatives. Become a content expert and serve as a trainer for Safe Animal Handling (SAH) I and IIHumane Education SupportSupport educators and volunteers with content questions and delivery guidance.Assist in tracking program metrics, including but not limited to schools served, students reached, and community groups hosted.Present at school visits, tours, community events, and serve as Camp Supervisor for Camp Whiskers and Wags.Serves as contact for youth and camp volunteers; leveraging existing networks and cultivates new relationships to grow Humane Education volunteer base. Administrative and Operational TasksServe as scheduler for school and community visits: manage requests, assign educators and volunteers, and confirm logistics with schools.Maintain reporting on offered trainings, humane education programming, staff and volunteer engagement, and compliance with HSPPR's continuing education requirements. Communicate training plans and progress with department trainers, supervisors, and leadership. Coordinate training needs assessments to identify knowledge or skill gaps.Collect post-training and education feedback to help refine programs and ensure effectiveness.Report training and program progress to trainers, supervisors, and Humane Education Manager.Stay informed on educational best practices and new training techniques.Use and train staff to use various software systems such as: SystemHub, Chameleon, Acuity, Active Network Paylocity, and Outlook.Supervisory DutiesAssist in training, coordinating, motivating, and recognizing Camp Counselor staff.Assist in oversight of Junior Counselor teen volunteers. Physical DemandsRegularly sits at computer station, often in a shared office environment.The employee must regularly lift and/or move 25 or more pounds of moving weight and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 or more pounds of moving weight.May be occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.Regularly required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear, and is frequently required to stand and walk. May be expected to be on feet for extended periods of time.Consistently exposed to animals in the workplace and animal allergens under conditions with limited alternatives available.Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.Regularly exposed to noise, outdoor elements and potential exposure to hazardous weather conditions.Potential exposure to cleaning supplies and/or other substances containing toxic or caustic chemicals.Schedule RequirementsMonday- Friday. May include early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed.May occasionally assist during training, humane education, or HSPPR events outside normal hours.Workplace TypeFully on- siteEducation/Experience Required2+ years of animal shelter operations or professional animal handling experience highly desired.Demonstrated experience developing, coordinating, or delivering training, educational programs, or classroom instruction. Experience managing groups, facilitating learning, or supervising participants is highly desirable.Basic animal behavior and veterinary knowledge. Experience with animal handling, capture, and medical or safety equipment.
