Tax Partner - State and Local TaxThriving CPA firm is in search of a State Tax Partner to join their team in Los Angeles, CA. This individual should possess expert knowledge of California state and local tax laws. The role allows for a mix of office and remote work, with office locations available in various California cities. In addition to a great work-life balance, the firm offers generous benefits, bonuses, and a 401K plan.ResponsibilitiesReviews and approves income tax and sales tax returns, as well as handles tax examinations. Experience with franchise and gross receipts taxes is preferred, especially in states like Texas and Ohio. Knowledge of sales and use tax is a plus.Provides expert advice to clients independently, demonstrating advanced technical skills.Manages client service tasks efficiently within budget constraints, understanding firm economics and profitability.Participates in business development initiatives related to State and Local Tax (SALT) projects.Delegates and supervises tax research projects to produce accurate results.Assists in recruiting, training, and retaining accounting staff, including recruitment at colleges and universities.Conducts employment interviews and offers to accounting staff employees, as well as performance evaluations and promotions.Manages governmental tax examinations and represents clients to taxing authorities.Maintains familiarity with qualifications of SALT tax staff, assigning appropriate tasks.Develops staff through recruitment, training, and professional development programs.Ensures accurate and timely billing and collections processes.Stays updated on economic and political trends that could impact tax legislation.Contributes to the development and maintenance of the firm's quality control procedures.Engages in practice development efforts to enhance firm operations and profitability.Builds strong relationships with federal tax partners, directors, and managers.Promotes efficiency and compliance within the firm's operations.Contributes insights and ideas to committees for improved firm operations and profitability.QualificationsRequires 10-15 years of public accounting experience with increasing complexity and scope of engagements managed.Must have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in accounting.Completion of 40 hours of continuing professional education annually.CPA or JD certification is necessary.
