Forest Crew Supervisor – Corrections Facility Recruitment #2026‑6‑7799 Full‑time, permanent, represented position (WPEA) Location: South Puget Sound Region – Littlerock, WA Salary: $4,300.00 – $5,779.00 monthly (incl. 2% wage increase effective July 1 2026) Responsibilities Supervise up to ten incarcerated adults during forest craft operations, including wildland fire suppression, vegetation management, and habitat enhancement. Provide leadership, safety oversight, and training for a forestry crew. Recruit, mentor, and train incarcerated individuals in forest craft skills. Ensure compliance with WACs, RCWs, and interagency agreements, maintaining effective relationships with the Department of Corrections. Communicate, problem‑solve, manage, and lead cooperatively with peers and supervisors. Travel to remote fire camps during fire season; work extended periods exceeding 10 hrs per day, including weekends and holidays. Required Qualifications Experience in forest crafts: seedling planting, forest plantation, vegetation management, pre‑commercial thinning, trail & facility construction, chainsaw & hand tool use, and/or wildland fire suppression. Six months of supervisory experience in a correctional or production‑based business environment. Supervisory experience in a diverse work setting focused on safety and security. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally using common technology. Required Competencies Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice. Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment NCIC background investigation. Completion of guard school (S‑130, S‑190, S‑212, L‑180) in first year to attain level FF2. Second year: attend and pass S‑131 FF1 class, work toward FF1 task book completion. Subsequent: work toward IC5 certification and Single Resource-Crew Boss certification. Annual arduous work capacity test: carrying a 45‑lb pack three miles in under 45 minutes. Valid First‑Aid, CPR, and AED certification. Physical ability to traverse uneven terrain, work in all weather conditions, and operate a 12‑person dual, 4‑WD vehicle, including towing trailers up to 16 ft. Valid driver’s license with ≥2 years driving experience; no suspension, revocation, or restriction. Desired Qualifications Knowledge of wildland fire suppression, forest data collection, natural resource management practices, and safe outdoor work conditions. Experience supervising adult incarcerated individuals. Leadership, conflict resolution, interpersonal communication, and professionalism skills. Experience with Microsoft Suite. Current pesticide applicator license in Washington State and Red Card Qualification for Single Resource Boss. College‑level coursework in natural resources, fire science, or related field.
