Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Overview An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Although every NVA hospital is unique, we all share a supportive environment that is committed to excellent medicine and provides exceptional service to animals and the people who love them. Responsibilities Work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gather patient histories, perform physical exams, and create treatment plans. Conduct diagnostics, dentistry services, and observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures. Manage patients medically and practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Program Details Most externship experiences at Rocky Gorge Animal Hospital range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students are encouraged to participate. Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. The stipend amount for Rocky Gorge Animal Hospital is $1,500.
