CT Technologist

To provide diagnostic Computed Tomography Services to inpatients, outpatients, and Emergency Department patients under the direction of the supervising radiologist, in accordance with established operating procedures and clinical protocols. To provide safe, prompt, efficient, and cost-effective CT services. Positions patients correctly, using proper immobilization techniques. Performs optimal scans using correct technical factors, shielding, and protocols, based on the patient diagnosis, history, and other relevant clinical information. Uses correct technical factors in accordance with the American College of Radiology (ACR) to utilize the lowest amount of radiation to achieve a diagnostic scan. Performs CT angiography, 3D, MIPS, VR, Vessel Analysis, and MPR's, as well as post-processing of computer data to enhance exams for radiologist interpretation, using reconstruction software appropriate to the pathology or region of interest. Follows correct CT Department Technologist workflow which includes selecting the correct scan room, identifying and documenting two forms of identification on each patient, acquiring history, verifying orders, scanning patients, sending images to PACS, scanning all paperwork and data sheets (e.g., history sheet, medication reconciliation sheets), completing the case in Meditech, addressing Quality Assurance issues, charging for contrast media and supplies, verifying that all images, series, and data sheets have been sent to PACS, ensuring the number of images is correct, verifying exams with images, and archiving images on the scanner. Operates support equipment for CT such as independent workstation, pressure injector, PACS, and EPIC systems. Initiates IVs for administration of contrast media for CT in accordance with department policy and utilizing standard precautions. Prepares patients for exams by explaining the procedure and encouraging questions while answering any queries the patient may have. Transports patients to and from departments when necessary and assists in transferring patients on and off the CT table. Continually monitors patient condition during CT procedures. Works with radiologists to tailor protocols to meet patient exam requirements. Refers difficult complaints or sensitive issues to department management. Is accountable for documentation of and charging for supplies used during the performance of exams or procedures. Documents confidential patient history to ensure appropriateness of exam and contrast media. Documents patient charge data, modifying and initiating charges as procedure modifications are made per the radiologist or ordering physician. Records any allergic reactions, IV extravasations, or unusual occurrences. Initiates incident reports regarding staff or patient situations. Maintains license and continuing education. Administers contrast media after proper patient screening. Ensures the proper exam is being administered to the patient and consults the provider as needed.
