Set Up Technician

The Set Up Technician is responsible for preparing, assembling, adjusting, and teardown of tooling, dies, and machinery (such as punch presses, saws, CNC metalworking tools, or automated finishing lines). This role ensures all equipment is aligned to exact specs before production runs, performs first-piece inspections, and troubleshoots operational issues to keep plant downtime to a minimum. This is for 1st shift - 6a-4:30p - Monday-Thursday will work Fridays if overtime is required. $22/hr

Responsibilities

• Machine & Tooling Changeovers: Install, align, and secure dies, fixtures, blades, and tooling on metal fabrication machines (punch presses, drill presses, band saws, press brakes, or metal coating/racking setups) based on daily production schedules.

• Setup & Calibration: Configure machine parameters, pressure settings, and mechanical stops. Upload or tweak CNC/PLC program offsets when applicable.

• Blueprint & Spec Reading: Interpret engineering drawings, templates, and work instructions to set precise tolerances and dimensions for metal components.

• First-Piece Quality Inspection: Run test parts and use precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges) to verify parts meet strict quality standards before handing the machine over to standard operators.

• Troubleshooting & Minor Maintenance: Diagnose mechanical, alignment, or part-defect issues during production runs. Perform minor mechanical maintenance, replace worn inserts, and clean tooling/fixtures.

• Material & Racking Prep: Coordinate raw material stock (sheet metal, extrusions, hardware) and ensure proper jigs/racks are staged.

• Safety & Housekeeping: Enforce safety protocols, ensure machine guards and safety interlocks are functional, and maintain an organized workspace (5S standards).
