Senior Technical Designer

Department: Technical Design / Garment Engineering Reports to: Technical Design Manager Purpose: The Senior Technical Designer will play a critical role in bridging design concepts with production realities. This position requires a deep understanding of all facets of garment engineering, including sewing techniques, pattern making, fitting, fabric properties, and construction details. The ideal candidate will ensure that designs are translated into accurately constructed garments that meet quality, fit, and functionality standards. They lead the garment engineering process with cross functional collaboration to ensure the products meet the brands aesthetic and quality standards expectations. This role supports and leads fit sessions, creates and maintains technical documentation, communicates directly with vendors, and partners cross-functionally to deliver accurate, production-ready apparel on time. Responsibilities Lead decision maker when being supported by an assistant, associate or technical designer Offer guidance to support team members. Collaborate with design and product development teams to interpret sketches and develop technical specifications. Create detailed technical packs, including patterns, measurements, construction details, and fabric requirements. Adhere to calendar deadlines to support the full development and production cycle Develop and review patterns, draping, and grading to ensure proper fit and proportion. Conduct fittings and evaluate prototypes to identify and resolve technical issues related to fabric behavior, construction, and fit. Provide technical guidance and support to sample makers and factories throughout the production process. Ensure all garments conform to quality standards, safety regulations, and brand specifications. Establish and maintain block patterns and specifications for key styles. Stay updated with the latest garment engineering techniques, sewing methods, and industry innovations. Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery within specifications. Troubleshoot production issues and recommend improvements in garment design or manufacturing processes. Document technical findings and maintain comprehensive records for future reference. Collaborate with production partners to update WIP reports Qualifications Associate or Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Textiles, Apparel Production, or related field. Minimum of 10 years’ experience in technical design or garment engineering, preferably within the apparel or fashion industry. Extensive knowledge of garment construction, sewing techniques, pattern making, fitting, and grading. Knowledge in Adobe Illustrator Knowledge of 3D cad software (e.g. Browzwear, CLO, etc..) Strong understanding of fabrics, trims, and garment care requirements. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail Ability to communicate effectively across teams and with manufacturing partners. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines Strong cross functional collaboration Physical Requirements The physical requirements described here are representative of those that are required by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to work in an open environment with fluctuating temperatures and standard lighting. Ability to work on computer and mobile phone for multiple hours; with frequent interruptions. Required to travel in elevator or stairwells to attend meetings and engage with associates on multiple floors throughout the building.
