EHS Operations Manager - Enterprise Initiatives

Position Summary Lead and manage enterprise Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) systems, training, procedures and initiatives on a global scale. The position will be responsible for the development of EHS standards, programs, tools, and training at an enterprise level and has accountability for driving continuous improvement. The position will lead deployment of enterprise EHS initiatives, including assistance and support to business units for approximately 400 sites and 5 business groups. The position will work closely with Operations as well as HR, Lean, Facilities, Information Technology, Sustainability, Risk Management and Legal functions. It will collaborate with business units, divisions, and international regions, working with and influencing business leaders, EHS professionals and associate-level employees. This position reports to the Corporate Director of EHS. Scope/Supervision and Interaction ____ Has Direct Reports X Does Not Have Direct Reports Responsibilities Responsible for deployment and operational execution of environmental, health and safety performance consistent with stakeholder expectations. Leads safety programs, for example: ergonomics, risk management, serious incident reduction, worksite analysis, hazard prevention and control, and employee engagement. Development and implementation of global EHS Directives – internal corporate standards for EHS management and performance. Implements and maintains enterprise-wide EHS business systems. Serves as an EHS and systems subject matter expert, training and coaching others within business operations. Supports enterprise level use of systems and tools and manages day-to-day system tasks; will be the point of contact for system permissions, issues, and enhancements; will initiate discussions with system vendors or internal IT team and facilitate and coordinate stakeholder interactions. Researches, evaluates and recommends changes to improve EHS performance. Interacts with customers, peer organizations and stakeholders as necessary regarding EHS performance. Provides visibility on EHS progress, performance, and issues to the EHS leadership teams. Lead enterprise EHS training programs, including offerings, content and system management. Supports business unit adoption of EHS business systems during acquisition or integration. Analyze Health and Safety metrics to identify opportunities to improve and reduce risk. Provide resources and tools to continually increase EHS competency within the organization. Manage EHS regulatory information services to provide business units with cost-effective access to regulatory requirements and updates. Oversees collecting, validating and reporting EHS performance metrics, including reporting performance against goals, monitoring key indicators and ensuring data quality. Continuously engage with stakeholders to ensure metrics are meaningful and relevant. Participate in corporate-led internal EHS audit program and process. Provides support to the Corporate EHS Director with vision and strategy, and support to senior leadership on performance, progress and concerns. Qualifications Business Skills and Knowledge Strategic leadership skills to execute initiatives and objectives. A strong business perspective that includes the ability to work with all levels of management. Knowledge and experience with using Lean, continuous improvement and problem tools to drive operational and safety performance. Planning/organizing – the individual prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans. Proven capability leading and managing comprehensive programs in a relevant, multinational service and manufacturing environment. In-depth understanding of relevant laws, regulations and governance requirements. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to communicate across all levels of the organization, including technology, tools, and processes. Ability to work in a matrixed, team-oriented environment; must work effectively to support cross-functional teams. Strong project management capabilities incorporating project management, stakeholder management, and change management experience. Strong familiarity, understanding and experience with EHS management systems and their successful implementation. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree or higher – preferred disciplines: occupational safety and health, environmental safety and health, safety or environmental management, safety engineering, or related field. 10+ years demonstrated experience in EHS. Certification/licensure a plus: CSP, CIH, NEBOSH or Professional Engineer. Experience working with multiple facilities across a business segment and/or with different regions. Business acumen, strong analytical skills, strategic thinking abilities, an understanding of organizational behavior, communication skills, ability to influence, able to work on a team, passionate, driven, self-starter.
