LINUX SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR

MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT

As a Linux Systems Administrator supporting CIS, you will ensure the stability, security, and performance of enterprise Linux systems within the server and compute environment. You will support system availability, execute operational maintenance, enable secure implementations, and contribute to the sustainment of mission critical infrastructure services. Your work directly strengthens resilience, consistency, and operational continuity across complex, and multinetwork environments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide Tier 2 support for Linux/Unix servers, workstations, web services, and storage-connected systems: support Tier 3 functions through cross training with Engineering

  • Perform installations, upgrades, and configuration of Linux operating systems and layered software packages in alignment with policies, procedures, and SLAs

  • Support planning and execution of system upgrades, hardware refreshes, and software deployments across operational environments

  • Conduct routine system maintenance including patching, updates, system health checks, logging, and backups

  • Implement and maintain security measures to protect systems against vulnerabilities and unauthorized access

  • Conduct security audits, compliance checks, and assessments to ensure adherence to organizational policies and regulatory requirements

  • Develop, manage, and test backup and recovery procedures; maintain and support disaster recovery and business continuity plans

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to provide system performance data, capacity trends, and operational insights that inform system design, build, and configuration activities

  • Partner with stakeholders to understand requirements and recommend appropriate Linux-based solutions that optimize performance and resource utilization

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware, software, and system issues; provide user and technical team support as needed

  • Maintain detailed documentation on system configurations, procedures, operational changes, and infrastructure updates

  • Support development or refinement of IT policies, procedures, and operational standards as requested

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED :

  • EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in an IT-related field, or 6+ years of relevant IT experience in lieu of a degree

  • CERTFICATION: Meet DoD 8140 Information Assurance Workforce certification requirements (e.g. Security+ CE, etc.)

  • CLEARANCE: Active TS/SCI clearance with a favorable polygraph

  • Hands-on experience administering, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise Linux/Unix systems across multiple environments

  • Strong understanding of secure configuration, patching, user and service management, storage integrations, and system performance monitoring

  • Ability to resolve complex system, network, and service issues across distributed environments

  • Strong documentation, communication, and collaboration skills

  • US citizenship required

The likely salary range for this position is $111,155 - $150,385. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
