HVAC Technician

Job Overview The HVAC Technician performs a wide variety of moderately complex technical tasks related to the inspection, repair, and maintenance of equipment, utility systems, and complex machinery. Responsibilities include piping, air handler, and HVAC maintenance and repairs. Responsibilities Investigate and troubleshoot problems and perform repairs on mechanical equipment, including large complex air movement and HVAC equipment. Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment. Take ownership of cross‑shift issues and resolutions. Assemble, install, and test complicated mechanical equipment, apparatus, and assemblies. Inspect, repair, and replace pumps and piping systems, including valves, components, and fittings. Analyze basic heating, cooling, and humidification cycles; identify components, understand operation of each component, and diagnose problems in related devices. Diagnose malfunctioning systems using test equipment and hand tools; locate causes of breakdowns and correct problems. Inspect mechanical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, ensuring compliance with codes and standards. Identify and advise others when continued operation of equipment could be hazardous or cause system damage. Use a variety of tools and equipment, including measuring devices and testing equipment. Perform business management duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and ordering supplies and equipment. Determine the tools and equipment required to perform work safely and completely. Oversee regularly scheduled testing and preventive maintenance of mechanical, HVAC, and instrumentation systems. Assist in leadership of related work and serve as a back‑up to other technicians on complex assignments as required. Physical Work Requirements Spend extended hours working inside and outside in all weather conditions and in awkward body positions. Perform strenuous labor and general maintenance activities. Regularly lift up to 50 lbs., carry and adjust heavy objects. Work with sharp, hot, and very cold supplies, equipment, and parts. Climb ladders, work at elevation from ladders, scaffolding, lifts, roofs or platforms, and work in confined spaces and on roofs. Stand, walk, use hands, fingers, and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed. Work different schedules, including holidays and weekends, and respond to after‑hours site emergencies. Qualifications and Experience High school diploma or GED equivalent. Three (3)+ years of relevant HVAC/R work experience, preventive and corrective maintenance of commercial and/or industrial buildings or equipment. EPA Section 608 Universal certification. Valid state driver's license. Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and/or Building Management System (BMS). Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams). Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills. Knowledge of industry standards for mechanical and HVAC maintenance. Ability to read, interpret, and understand basic engineering drawings, specifications, work orders, and equipment manuals. Preferred Qualifications Exposure to Johnson Controls/JCI, Siemens, and Corrigo CMMS/BMS/BAS systems. Benefits 401(k) plan with company matching contributions. Compensation Estimated compensation: $72,000.00 – $88,000.00 per year. Actual compensation may vary based on qualifications, location, market conditions, and other factors.
