Kinectrics is looking for a Transmission Cables Field Engineer for our U.S. Transmission Cable Field Testing service line. Your primary focus will be on executing a portfolio of projects while ensuring a high level of customer service. An Electrical Engineering degree as well as demonstrated project management and understanding of cable systems is a must. Additional education in Master or PhD or certifications in project management is an asset. Must be willing and able to travel both nationally and internationally. Major Duties / Responsibilities Act as a project engineer for Kinectrics dealing with inspection, maintenance and testing of transmission‑class cables. Further, develop strategies supporting the growth of Kinectrics in this technology, especially field testing using Kinectrics Resonant Test Sets, PD measurement in the field, and supporting installation and commissioning of transmission cables. Plan and develop business proposals for work in the area of transmission cable management, including contracts, cost estimates, scheduling, resource management, and preparing a technical engineering report upon project completion. Prepare project‑specific work instructions, develop and review pre‑job safety documentation, create test plans, and coordinate resource and equipment allocations prior to project mobilization. Mobilize to the site, execute tests in accordance with the approved plan, manage equipment pack‑up and demobilization, and conduct post‑job reviews upon return. Collaborate with Leadership and the technical team to implement standardized testing protocols, project preparations, and execution procedures. Comply with internal instructions to maintain uniformity across all projects. Consult with Leadership to develop strategies and plans to respond to customers’ complex problems. Keep informed on the latest issues in the design, installation, qualification, maintenance, and repair of transmission cables. Maintain expertise in this area with active participation in relevant cable committees. Adhere to Kinectrics quality programs (ISO9001 & 17025) and maintain Kinectrics commitment to safe working practices. Qualifications / Requirements Four‑year university education in electrical engineering. Preference will be given to post‑graduate qualification and demonstrated leadership in power transmission technologies. Strong knowledge of all aspects of transmission systems, transmission technologies, and transmission technology options. Theoretical and practical knowledge/experience in power transmission cable design, construction, maintenance, and diagnostic practices. Up to five years of experience is considered necessary to gain this experience. Demonstrated qualification experience in the areas of, but not limited to, transmission cable technologies. Legal authorization to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship now or in the future. Willingness and ability to travel both nationally and internationally. Proven computer skills with a variety of software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Strong oral, presentation, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Additional Desired Competencies Track record of technical leadership including successful projects and publications across both cable suppliers and cable users. Strong customer focus and broad experience for successfully maintaining and developing new business. Initiative to propose and implement new business ideas in the area of transmission cable technology. Considerable knowledge and experience in project management acquired over the years to effectively and rapidly integrate large multidisciplinary high‑profile/key projects and activities. Ability to work independently and manage time and budgets on Kinectrics projects and work on multiple projects in parallel. Participation in IEEE cable committees.
