Associate Director of Defense and Security Collaborations Position Summary Responsible for executing the strategic vision of the University of Georgia Research Institute (UGARI), focusing on funding acquisition for faculty pursuing research with mission‑driven agencies such as the Department of Energy, Department of Defense, and Homeland Security. Coordinates strategies to pursue external funding, resources, and infrastructure to support research. Reports to the UGARI Director and engages with the Office of Research and faculty across UGA to expand UGARI services. Responsibilities Supervision Supervise all UGARI Research Scientists, including development of Position Descriptions and conducting performance reviews. Administration Support quarterly meetings with the UGARI Steering Committee to provide updates on activities. Participate in weekly meetings with UGARI Program Management staff. Provide direct support for the annual retreat for UGARI staff and UGA faculty. Funding Development Conduct monthly reviews of potential funding opportunities relevant to mission‑driven agencies. Travel to Washington, DC and other locations to discuss potential research ideas with funding agencies and congressional staff. Collaborate with the UGARI Program Manager for Project Capture to improve business services and university policies. Coordination Serve as liaison between UGARI and university investigators, department heads, and faculty. Serve as liaison between UGARI and university administrators, including Sponsored Programs and Human Resources. Represent UGARI at workshops and collaborative events with sponsors and partners. Other Duties Collect information and produce summary statistics for the UGARI annual report. Serve on or create committees to address strategic or infrastructure needs. Develop and lead strategic initiatives to strengthen or expand UGARI with guidance from the UGARI Director. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience working with federal and/or mission‑driven agencies, including government contracting services. Prior role as Contract Officer, Contract Officer Representative, or Technical Point of Contact. Successful management of multiple contracts or awards across various mission areas. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and scholarship. Strong internal management skills and budgetary experience. Collaborative teamwork with faculty, staff, sponsors, and partners. Effective communication in writing, speaking, and listening. Organizational skills with ability to prioritize, remember details, and multitask. Physical Demands Work in a standard office environment. Sit and work at a computer workstation. Lifting and moving up to 20 pounds as needed. Walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, and climbing.
