Health System Specialist (Health Professions Education)

Job Summary This position is in the Health Professions Education Office and is supervised by the HPE Manager. It supports the Designated Education Officer in establishing, maintaining, and evaluating the quality of HPE programs and the care delivered by Health Professional Trainees at the VA medical facility. Key Responsibilities Analyze and synthesize data from diverse systems to validate and present accurate, relevant information. Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve individual and system problems, developing solutions to improve program and system efficiency. Utilize qualitative and quantitative data‑mining methods to assess and improve business processes. Analyze on‑boarding and off‑boarding processes for efficacy and efficiency. Recommend, implement, and lead process improvements for organizational operations and office procedures. Develop briefings, reports, and capacity studies that inform strategic planning for program growth. Implement SOPs, develop and administer training programs, and advise on department regulations to enact process changes. Coordinate across clinical and administrative service lines to improve new healthcare professional onboarding. Ensure timely completion of complex processes to prevent delays in patient care, clinic productivity and educational opportunities. Use information management and analysis software, including spreadsheets, online portals, graphics, presentations, and flow‑charting tools. Maintain databases on healthcare professionals’ training, security background, academic programs, authorization, and licensure. Work with multiple software platforms that require regular updates and upgrades. Prepare data and information for executive‑level briefings and official reporting. Establish and maintain collegial relationships with key academic and accreditation organizations. Research, develop, and communicate policies, procedures, and institutional controls with stakeholders. Exercise initiative, collaborate with an interprofessional team, and prioritize competing priorities. Maintain ongoing communication with academic affiliates and program leaders to promote the academic mission, establish and maintain affiliation agreements, and communicate priorities and program requirements. Qualifications GS‑09: One year of specialized experience in health‑care analytics, clinical management, or administrative supervision, or two years of graduate education, or a combination of education and experience that totals 100% of the required experience. GS‑11: One year of specialized experience at a GS‑09 level, or a PhD/Doctoral degree or three years of graduate education, or a combination of education and experience that totals 100% of the required experience. Eligibility Applicants must be U.S. citizens, subject to a background/suitability investigation. Selective Service registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Work Schedule 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Physical Requirements Sedentary work with occasional walking or standing, light lifting (≤15 pounds), and travel to meetings or conferences. Promotion Potential Promoted to the full performance level without additional competition when regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met.
