Nurse Practitioner The Veterans Health Administration is seeking Nurse Practitioners for the West Texas VA Health Care System. This open continuous announcement is for current permanent employees of the West Texas VA Health Care System and may be used to fill Nurse Practitioner positions in areas such as Primary Care and Mental Health. The Nurse Practitioner functions as a licensed independent practitioner, providing advanced patient care, managing complex patients, supporting interdisciplinary collaboration, and helping improve patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, resource use, and care delivery systems. Practice to the full extent of education, training, and certification without mandatory physician supervision or collaboration. Manage complex patients using advanced education, clinical experience, leadership, and creative approaches to care. Develop, implement, and coordinate patient care delivery systems that promote communication, teamwork, high-quality care, patient satisfaction, positive outcomes, appropriate resource utilization, and cost-effective services. Provide health care to individuals, families, and groups in a variety of care settings. Act independently and/or collaboratively with other health care professionals in the delivery of health care services. Support organizational processes and systems that improve overall patient outcomes. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient care and care coordination. Basic Qualifications: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with VA policy. Must be proficient in basic written and spoken English. Must be subject to a background/security investigation. Must pass a pre-employment physical examination. Must pass pre-employment drug testing and remain subject to drug testing requirements for this testing designated position. Selective Service registration is required for males born after December 31, 1959. Must complete all application requirements and online onboarding requirements. Must provide acceptable identification for employment eligibility verification. Must participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program as required for Department of Veterans Affairs health care personnel. Selected applicant may be required to serve a probationary period. Nurse Practitioner Education Requirements: Must have a post-master's certificate, master's degree, or doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner. Must be a graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency. The nursing program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education at the time the program was completed. Applicants pending completion of education requirements may be referred and tentatively selected, but may not be hired until education requirements are met. Foreign nursing education must be validated through an agency-recognized degree equivalency evaluation agency. Licensure and Certification Requirements: Must possess and maintain an active, current, full, and unrestricted Advanced Practice Nurse license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Must maintain full and current basic board certification in the Nurse Practitioner specialty area for which academically prepared. Qualifying certifications may include Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Adult Nurse Practitioner, Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, or Gerontology Nurse Practitioner. Certification must be from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board, or another nationally recognized certifying body. Nurse Practitioner II Qualification Requirements: Must meet the basic education requirement for Advanced Practice Nurse / Nurse Practitioner. No additional experience is required for Nurse II, which is considered the entry grade level for Advanced Practice Nurse / Nurse Practitioner positions. Must demonstrate leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies. Must deliver evidence-based health care and demonstrate proficiency in managing a patient panel, population, or program. Must use research and evidence-based practice to evaluate patient care delivery and contribute to improvements in quality and timeliness of care. Must work effectively as a leader within a team or unit and seek interdisciplinary collaboration as appropriate. Must demonstrate effective communication, professional behavior, cooperation, and teamwork. Nurse Practitioner III Qualification Requirements: Must meet the basic education requirement for Advanced Practice Nurse / Nurse Practitioner. Must have one year of specialized Advanced Practice Nurse / Nurse Practitioner experience equivalent to the Nurse II grade level. Must execute responsibilities demonstrating leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex patient care. Must influence and model delivery of evidence-based care and demonstrate expertise in managing a patient panel, population, or program. Must lead and implement changes that improve quality and timeliness of Veteran care. Must initiate and lead interdisciplinary teams using structured approaches and processes to improve outcomes. Must acquire and disseminate knowledge and skills within or outside the medical facility. Physical Requirements: Lifting up to 35 pounds for 8 to 12 hours intermittently. Moderate carrying of 15 to 35 pounds for 8 to 12 hours intermittently. Lifting over 35 pounds with assistive devices in accordance with the Safe Patient Handling Policy, except in emergent situations requiring prompt patient care. Pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulders, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending, and climbing intermittently for 8 to 12 hours. Both hands and both legs are required. Requires near vision, far vision correctable to required standards, ability to distinguish basic colors, hearing with aid permitted, twisting, simple grasp, and fine manipulation.
