Location: Missoula, MT (On-Site)
Salary: $95,000 - $115,000 (DOE)
Pay Range Equivalent: $45.50 - $55.30/hour

Express Employment Professionals is partnering with a rapidly expanding construction and environmental services company to recruit an experienced Accounting Manager . This organization operates across multiple states and specializes in asbestos abatement, lead and mold remediation, chemical handling, and general construction services.


This is a high-impact leadership role within a fast-paced, project-based environment. You will play a critical part in financial oversight, job costing, and operational alignment-working closely with both executive leadership and field teams to ensure accuracy, profitability, and continued growth.

What You'll Do


Leadership & Team Development

• Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff
• Drive accountability, accuracy, and efficiency within the department
• Partner with leadership on staffing, training, and process improvements

Financial Management & Reporting

• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
• Manage the month-end close process
• Prepare financial statements, variance analysis, and internal reporting
• Provide insights to support leadership decision-making

Job Costing & Project Accounting (Core Focus)

• Maintain and improve job costing systems across multiple projects and crews
• Track labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs by project
• Analyze job profitability and identify cost variances
• Collaborate with project managers on budgets versus actuals

Field Operations Collaboration

• Work closely with project managers and field teams to ensure accurate cost tracking
• Align accounting practices with real-time job site activity
• Translate field data into clear, actionable financial insights

Billing & Cash Flow Management

• Oversee progress billing and contract invoicing
• Manage retainage tracking and collections
• Support cash flow forecasting across active projects
• Ensure billing aligns with contract terms and project milestones

Compliance & Systems Improvement

• Ensure compliance with multi-state tax, licensing, and reporting requirements
• Support audits and regulatory processes
• Evaluate and improve accounting systems, workflows, and internal controls
• Implement best practices for reporting and job costing

Strategic Support

• Assist with budgeting and forecasting
• Support bid analysis and financial planning for new projects
• Provide data-driven recommendations to improve profitability and scalability

What You Bring


Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5-10+ years of relevant accounting experience
• Strong background in construction or project-based accounting environments
• Expertise in job costing and financial reporting
• Experience leading or mentoring a team
• Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with accounting systems
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting

Preferred:

• CPA or MBA
• Experience with multi-state operations
• Familiarity with construction accounting software (Sage, Foundation, QuickBooks, etc.)
• Background in environmental or specialty contracting industries

Work Environment

• Primarily office-based with occasional site visits (5-10% travel)
• Fast-paced, multi-project environment
• High collaboration with leadership and operations teams
