Pay range: $120,445 - $195,725/ year

Job Highlights

This position will oversee the daily operations of the Medication Services Department and the UAB Pharmacy Refill Center, providing leadership and support to the pharmacists and technicians who serve our ambulatory clinics and patients.

Key Responsibilities

Provide leadership for ambulatory pharmacy operations, which requires a strong understanding of UAB's institutional and clinic structure, medication procurement strategies, inventory management, medication storage requirements, and related operational processes.

Oversee pharmacists and technicians who:

• Manage medication inventory for provider-based and physician clinics throughout UAB Hospital, including medication shortages and recalls.
• Compound hazardous and non-hazardous medications in both sterile and non-sterile environments.
• Utilize established protocols to support primary care providers with medication management within their clinics.

Participate in the Medication Services Committee, the Ambulatory Subcommittee of UAB's Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee.

Support the training, development, access, and overall success of the Medication Services and Refill Center teams.

Ensure regulatory and organizational compliance with UAB policies and procedures, The Joint Commission, USP standards, ALBOP, DEA requirements, and other applicable regulations.

Partner with UAB's Ambulatory Implementation team to ensure pharmacy is actively engaged in clinic moves, implementations, and go-live activities.

Identify opportunities to improve operational processes, patient care, and collaboration between pharmacy and ambulatory clinical teams.

Desirable Traits and Experience

Pharmacist with at least 3 years of relevant experience.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Experience with medication procurement and inventory management.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.

Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

Ability to build positive relationships and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

Job Description

To lead, direct and manage the activities and programs of the Department of Pharmacy. To ensure optimal clinical service. To manage human resource activities and financial targets. To act as a liaison with medical center committees and schools of pharmacy as appropriate. To promote and support research.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Licensed Pharmacist by the Alabama Board of Pharmacy (ALBOP) required.
