Engineer - Transmission Reliability

About the OpportunityThis is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.This position can be located anywhere in the FE territory.This position is responsible for analyzing transmission system reliability performance data and determining root causes of transmission system reliability issues. This position is also accountable for determining solutions to resolve transmission system reliability issues, and coordinating / championing those solutions through implementation.Responsibilities include: Initiating actions to collect data and information required for transmission system reliability analysisOrganizing transmission reliability data to facilitate analysis of transmission system reliabilityPerforming formal and rigorous analysis to determine the cause(s) of transmission system eventsPerforming statistical analyses of transmission reliability data to identify the primary drivers adversely impacting transmission system reliabilityDeveloping and maintaining metrics demonstrating how FE transmission system reliability compares to applicable industry standardsRecommending management, target levels of FE transmission system reliability performance relative to industry normsWorking with Planning & Protection, Engineering and others to identify options with recommendations for projects and initiatives to improve FE transmission system reliabilityCoordinating and championing transmission system reliability improvement projects through to inclusion in transmission portfolioDeveloping and making presentations to leadership on status updates and/or project justificationsChampioning and coordinating transmission reliability improvement initiatives through to conclusionSupporting the emergency plan through participation in assigned storm duties including hazard responding and/or dispatchQualifications:Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering (BSEE, BSCE, BSME) from an ABET accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives are: (1) a Professional Engineer’s (PE) License (2) a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited institution (3) a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering or technical field of study (non-ABET) plus an advanced degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s program. A Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certificate is preferred.Minimum of 3 (three) years of Engineering experience is required.A working knowledge of electrical engineering, transmission substation equipment, transmission system protection and transmission system operations are desiredPrior experience with root cause analysis, Six Sigma and / or statistical analysis is desiredMust have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with excellent verbal and written communication skillsMust possess the ability to continue to learn and grow, work across FirstEnergy, and deliver resultsFirstEnergy takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. In addition, your actual base salary will depend on various factors such as your skills, qualifications, and experience.The estimated pay range for this role is $84,150-$118,800.
