Patrol Officer -15th Lateral Class (out of state applicants only)

Overview Lateral Police Officer candidates are experienced full‑time police officers currently employed by other municipal, county, or state agencies as law enforcement officers assigned to patrol responsibilities. Candidates must have a current and up‑to‑date Law Enforcement Training Academy Certification issued from the State where they exercise law enforcement powers and be in good standing with their current agency. Position Responsibilities Patrol the assigned area by vehicle and on foot, maintaining high visibility to assist in crime prevention and responding to incidents. Conduct initial investigations of crimes and crime scenes, and assist detectives in criminal investigation work. Perform search and seizure activities, collect and preserve evidence, and arrest or detain suspected violators. Review incident facts to determine criminal or statutory violations and testify in judicial settings (misdemeanor, felony, and violations). Render first aid to accident victims, secure scenes, conduct investigations with evidence collection and body‑by‑body statements, and conduct or request breathalyzer tests. Transport individuals in custody and assist in accident investigations, including scene assessment, victim extraction, and preparation of diagrams. Maintain uniform, equipment, vehicle, and weapons according to department policy and keep all necessary forms and reports in order. Attend in‑service training, defensive driving, and firearms courses to stay current on new procedures and compliance. Perform additional duties as directed. Qualifications Applicants must submit the following documentation with their applications or their applications will not be processed: Certified copies of transcripts from the current State‑Approved Academy. Current certification. Training certificates. Additional qualifications include: Law Enforcement Training Academy Certification in the State of current employment. At least one year of paid, full‑time law enforcement service after completing certification from another state. Full‑time sworn officer status with a county, state, or municipal law enforcement agency, primarily in a patrol role with responsibilities similar to those listed above. High School Diploma or equivalent (HSE) required. Resident citizen of the United States. Age between 21 years and before turning 40 at the time of appointment. No felony convictions. No misdemeanor convictions involving domestic violence under 18 USC §922(g) or HB10062. Valid Indiana driver’s license at time of appointment. No dishonorable discharge from the military.
