Required Qualifications: Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from an accredited Registered Nurse program and experience in maternal child nursing. Holds a valid Kentucky license to practice as a Registered Nurse.

Desired Qualifications: Has documented experience in school, public health, community health, nursing or other community health related field. Has current certification in CPR and knows how to administer first aid. Willing to provide services outlined in the Kentucky Department of Education Health Services Reference Guide. Demonstrates the ability to work and/or communicate effectively with health agencies, professionals and children. Experience in a diverse workplace. Maintains required continuing education courses and has current knowledge of technological advances in the field. Meets the requirements of a criminal record check as specified by Kentucky state law.

Scope of Responsibilities: To assess, plan and implement the nursing process, provide appropriate classroom instruction, maintain accurate medical records, promote wellness and disease prevention by early detection and correct health problems that may interfere with learning, growth and development.

Performance Responsibilities & Evaluation Criteria: Exercises proficiency in medical knowledge and skills in pediatric, adolescent and adult preventive health and is able to understand and follow written prescriptions. Assesses students' healthcare needs (physical, emotional or mental), develops a healthcare plan appropriate to the students' needs; counsels with parents/guardians to ensure resources available for care and assists parents, school personnel and pupils in understanding and adjusting to physical, mental and social limitations. Participates in student/parent conferences, including initial intake conferences. Explores community resources and serves as a resource person/liaison to school personnel, pupils, parents, physicians and various organizations; makes referrals, performs follow-up and, on request, schedules appointments to facilitate optimal care. Documents all Health Office visits in Infinite Campus. Maintains and documents cumulative up-to-date medical records as delineated in the KDE Health Services Reference Guide; orders supplies and health teaching materials and maintains medical equipment in proper working condition, including performing quality control evaluations on laboratory equipment/supplies, when necessary.

Provides instruction in other health related programs to include training general staff in areas to heighten awareness and information regarding current health issues, advising the exclusion or re-admission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases and to assist with mandated vision and hearing screenings. Participates with school staff in developing and implementing a coordinated school health program and trains special education staff members to work with children having various physical handicaps. Assists in providing health services in all schools to promote wellness and disease prevention by early detection of health problems that interfere with learning. Follows District policy in the investigation of physical or sexual abuse and neglect, when necessary and reports suspected abuse to appropriate agencies. Completes all trainings and other compliance requirements as assigned by the designated deadline. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Pupil Personnel or Superintendent.

Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary. The work requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. At times, the work requires bending, squatting and reaching, with the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights. The work requires activities involving exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity and driving automotive equipment.

Terms of Employment: Number of days worked will be determined by the current school calendar adopted by the Warren County Board of Education. Salary shall be commensurate with adopted classified personnel salary schedule. Leave accrual will be as stated in Board Policy.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provision of Warren County Board of Education policy on evaluation of classified/certified personnel and in accordance with evaluation requirements of any subcontracting agency. Evaluations will be conducted by the Director of Pupil Personnel.
