We are seeking a Physician specializing in Psychiatry to join our team at the Desmond T. Doss Health Clinic, located on Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. This opportunity is part of a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Oahu, often referred to as "The Gathering Place," is the most populous island in Hawaii. Honolulu, the largest city and state capital, serves as the primary deep-water marine port for Hawaii. While the entire island falls under Honolulu County, the city itself occupies only a portion of its southeastern region. Notable attractions on Oahu include Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, Hanauma Bay, Kane'ohe Bay, Kailua Bay, the North Shore, and the resort area of Ko'Olina.

Oahu is famous for experiencing the longest recorded rain shower, lasting 200 consecutive days. Kane'ohe Ranch noted 247 days of continuous rain from August 27, 1993, to April 30, 1994. The island enjoys a warm climate, with average temperatures ranging from 70-85 °F (21-29 °C), peaking from June to October. Winters are milder, averaging 68-78 °F (20-26 °C).

Primary Duties:

• Deliver treatment services encompassing inpatient care, consultation liaison services, partial hospitalization, day programs, emergency psychiatric services, tele-psychiatric services, and both routine and intensive outpatient services.
• Formulate treatment plans and administer suitable therapeutic interventions, which may include medication management, various individual therapy techniques, and group therapy sessions.
• Oversee treatment using evidence-based practices, adjusting care plans as necessary, and providing follow-up for adult patients with mental health and behavioral issues.
• Prescribe appropriate pharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatments.
• Collaborate with physicians from other specialties on complex cases requiring advanced treatment approaches.
• Offer professional consultation, supervision, and collaborative medical support to other healthcare professionals, including psychologists, advanced practice nurses, social workers, and others.
• Participate as a member of local Medical Evaluation Boards to assess and determine duty capabilities.
• Conduct training and supervise psychiatric residents, interns, medical students, psychology interns, and other medical and mental health trainees.
• Provide recommendations for enhancing work methods and organizational practices while serving on committees or working groups that review and establish new treatment protocols or update mental health policies.
• Engage in Quality Assurance (QA) activities, performance improvement initiatives, risk management programs, and peer review processes.
• Act as a member of the professional medical staff, providing advisory and consultative services at various local and national meetings, committees, conferences, and boards.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the educational and experiential criteria outlined below. Experience includes both paid and unpaid roles, such as volunteer work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, community, student, social). All relevant experience will be considered, and your resume should clearly detail your qualifications. If qualifying through education, transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Basic Requirements for Physician (Psychiatry):

• Degree: A Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from an accredited institution in the United States or Canada. This degree must be recognized by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association, the Association of American Medical Colleges, the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, or the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation. For degrees from foreign medical schools, equivalency to accredited US institutions must be demonstrated through permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. (Note: Transcripts or proof of foreign equivalency must be included in your application.)
• Licensure: Candidates must hold a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a US territory.
• Graduate Training: Following the attainment of a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, candidates must have at least one year of supervised clinical experience, such as a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in an accredited hospital or institution.

In addition to the basic requirements, candidates must also fulfill the following qualifications:

• Residency, Experience, and Training: Applicants must have successfully completed accredited residency training in Psychiatry and possess equivalent experience and training totaling at least four years. Experience cannot substitute for the required residency training in the specified specialty.

Salary Information: If selected for the Physician role, a salary quote will not be provided at the initial job offer stage. The salary determination process will commence after the job offer is accepted, involving the Activity Compensation Panel to establish base pay and market pay, which will be communicated once approved. Physician salaries are based on a tier scale determined by specialty, grade, and location.

Foreign Education: If you are utilizing education from foreign institutions to meet qualification requirements, you must provide evidence that your educational credentials have been evaluated by a recognized organization specializing in the interpretation of foreign education programs, confirming that they are equivalent to those obtained in an accredited US program.
