CLINICAL RESEARCH COORDINATOR II

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Med - Pulmonary/Allergy/Critical Care, is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator II.

General Responsibilities

• To serve as coordinator for studies and provide support to other team members within the confines of the protocol as directed.
  
  
• To support screening and participant eligibility determination, working with more senior team members to ensure compliance.
  
  
• To conduct activities in accordance with the protocol, regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
  
  
• To assist with the study life cycle from start-up to closure, i.e., collecting and recording data, recruiting and performing follow-up with participants, scheduling visits and assisting in coordination of lab and fieldwork.
  
  

Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. Collects and records preliminary data for clinical research programs. Recruits and performs follow-up visits and phone calls with research participants as protocols outline. Schedules visits according to research protocols.
   
   
2. Coordination of protocol, lab, and fieldwork. Prepares for and participates in study monitoring visits.
   
   
3. Corrects findings, completes reports, and corresponds with sponsors.
   
   
4. Completes Case Report Forms (CRF) according to protocol.
   
   
5. Assists with development of protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for data quality assurance.
   
   
6. Performs general clerical duties (faxing, scanning, routing messages, coordinating the purchase of supplies/materials).
   
   
7. Performs a variety of medical procedures under supervision.
   
   
8. Assists in compiling, editing, and proofreading written reports for both internal and external stakeholders.
   
   
9. Uses Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems necessary for operations.
   
   
10. Performs other duties as assigned.
    
    

Annual Salary Range : $50,050 - $81,330

Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

Preferred degree: Respiratory Therapy, Nursing, or other Health/Medical Services, Sociology, or Public Health.

Ideal candidate should have research operational knowledge including but not limited to:

• Clinical trial coordination and management.

• Human Subjects Protection and IRB processes.
  
  
• FDA regulations and compliance.
  
  
• Study startup, activation, and closeout procedures.
  
  
• Source documentation and case report form completion.
  
  
• Adverse event and serious adverse event reporting.
  
  
• Protocol implementation and deviation management.
  
  
• Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems (REDCap, Medidata, Oracle, etc.).
  
  
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR) navigation.
  
  
• Data quality assurance and query resolution.
  
  
• Research database management.
  
  
• Regulatory binder maintenance.
  
  
• Clinical trial management systems (CTMS).
  
  
• Ability to explain complex research studies in understandable terms.
  
  
• Must be able to manage sensitive conversations with critically ill patients.
  
  
• Must have strong attention to detail (ensuring protocol compliance, accurate research documentation, verifying eligibility criteria, preventing data entry errors).
  
  
• Must be organized and able to manage time and responsibilities well.
  
  
• Must be able to problem-solve and collaborate with others of varying experience and leadership levels.
  
  
• Must be adaptable, professional, and willing to serve as a knowledge resource for junior staff.
