Senior Policy Advisor – Electricity MEMBERS ONLY SIGN UP NOW. is a national think tank and advocacy organization focused on moderate policy. The Senior Policy Advisor – Electricity supports the Climate and Energy Program’s electricity portfolio and leads policy development aimed at improving electricity affordability in Washington, DC. Responsibilities Own a core body of work within CEP’s electricity portfolio, setting priorities, managing timelines, and ensuring delivery of high‑quality outputs. Conduct and oversee in‑depth research on policies reforming electricity markets, regulation, utility cost recovery, and transmission financing, with a focus on advancing electricity affordability. Author high‑impact written reports, memos, and other products that influence public discourse and promote center‑left electricity policies. Develop a work plan with the supervisor to set objectives, strategies, products, events, and resources that advance the portfolio’s goals. Collaborate with partner NGOs, regulators, utilities, and other stakeholders to identify policy needs and build consensus around proposals. Manage relationships with key contacts in Congress, FERC, DOE, other federal agencies, and state governments to stay current on policy developments, advocate solutions, and advise on implementation. Coordinate with colleagues across the Climate and Energy Program to ensure policy proposals and advocacy plans are aligned for maximum impact. Manage and coordinate contracts with consultants covering workstreams outside the advisor’s core expertise. Represent MEMBERS ONLY SIGN UP NOW. in meetings, working groups, congressional briefings, and public speaking engagements on electricity policy. Qualifications Strong understanding of electricity policy needs and solutions in areas such as markets, regulation, economics, transmission, utility business models, and the data center nexus. At least three years of experience in electricity policy, power markets, utility regulation, energy economics, transmission, or a closely related field, including engagement with FERC, state public utility commissions, RTO/ISO, utilities, transmission developers, research institutions, or advocacy organizations. Ability to write clearly and persuasively on complex electricity policy topics for a non‑expert audience. Ability to work independently to identify opportunities, surface new ideas, and proactively advance the organization’s electricity policy goals. Experience with policy advocacy, including public presentations, congressional briefings, direct outreach to policymakers, and press engagement. Experience developing and executing strategies to achieve near‑term and multi‑year objectives. Passion for center‑left policymaking and a belief that smart electricity policy is essential to an affordable, reliable, and clean energy future.
