About the Construction Industry / The Opportunity:

Join a leading construction organization delivering complex heavy civil, highway, and transportation infrastructure projects throughout the Western Region. This traveling opportunity places you at the center of project execution, overseeing field operations that improve roadways, utilities, and critical public infrastructure. As a Traveling Superintendent, you will lead crews, subcontractors, and project stakeholders while ensuring safe, high-quality, and timely delivery across multiple states.

Responsibilities:

• Lead day-to-day jobsite operations for heavy civil, highway, roadway, utility, earthwork, and paving projects.
• Schedule and coordinate subcontractors, vendors, consultants, and field personnel along the critical path.
• Review project plans, specifications, schedules, budgets, traffic control plans, and staging requirements.
• Coordinate jobsite setup, equipment, materials, temporary utilities, security, and daily site readiness.
• Monitor roadway subgrade, base course, utility installation, concrete structures, asphalt paving, and other construction activities for quality and progress.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, state, federal, environmental, and project-specific safety requirements.
• Coordinate lane closures, detours, flagging, traffic control operations, inspections, and agency requirements.
• Maintain daily reports covering labor, equipment, production quantities, inspections, delays, weather, and project progress.
• Communicate schedule risks, cost impacts, field issues, and corrective actions to project and regional leadership.
• Mentor and develop foremen and craft personnel while promoting a strong safety and performance culture.
• Manage punch lists and confirm corrective work is completed before project turnover.

Must-Have Skills:

• Proven experience supervising heavy civil, highway, roadway, or transportation construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of excavation, grading, embankment construction, underground utilities, roadway removals, and asphalt paving.
• Experience interpreting contract drawings, specifications, addenda, RFIs, supplemental specifications, and DOT standards.
• Demonstrated ability to lead crews, subcontractors, vendors, and consultants in an active jobsite environment.
• Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, state, federal, environmental, and construction safety requirements.
• Experience coordinating traffic control, lane closures, detours, flagging, and public roadway operations.
• Ability to monitor production, labor, equipment, quality control, schedule performance, and project costs.
• Strong communication, documentation, problem-solving, and stakeholder coordination skills.
• Willingness and ability to travel frequently throughout the Western Region and support multi-state projects.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

• Experience with HCSS HeavyJob or equivalent construction field reporting and production tracking systems.
• GPS layout, staking, field measurement, or machine control experience.
• Experience working directly with DOT representatives, inspectors, engineers, and third-party testing agencies.
• Background in bridge, structure support, municipal, county, or large-scale freeway construction.
• Experience with material certifications, density testing, environmental controls, and quality documentation.
• Experience participating in preconstruction planning, project scheduling, and budget reviews. xhyhwjd
