Development Mechanical Engineer I

The purpose of this position is to provide planning services for current and long-range planning projects. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Interprets zoning and code and advises citizens on zoning related matters. Conducts intake with citizens and petitioners for permits, annexations, rezonings, sign packages, and similar development proposals. Receives, manages and distributes development plans for review to multiple City departments. Routes other related planning related documents to impacted City departments for review and comment. Reviews plats and plans to ensure compliance with the Concord Development Ordinance (CDO). Issues permits and conducts zoning inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans. Advises on various issues related to projects to ensure adherence to applicable guidelines, standards, and provisions. Serves as the primary point of contact for sign permits and comprehensive sign packages. Works closely with Planning and Zoning staff to ensure compliance with the special use permit process. Assists in the update and maintenance of the Concord Development Ordinance (CDO). Supplemental Functions Performs other similar duties as required. Job Specifications and Qualifications Knowledge Modern planning principle and practices Social, economic, and business implications of planning Applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulation Customer Service principles Construction and/or development procedures Research methods and techniques Technical writing methods and techniques Licensing and Certifications Valid North Carolina Driver's License Possession of or ability to obtain Certified Zoning Official Certification (CZO) within two (2) years from date of hire. Failure to obtain within two (2) years of hire may result in termination. Please Note: Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record. Working Conditions / Physical Requirements Positions in this class require: standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, handling, kneeling, pushing/pulling, vision, foot controls, bending, hearing, twisting, talking. Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly AND/OR walking or standing to a significant degree. Required Skills Experience with Microsoft Office 365 applications and collaboration tools (e.g., SharePoint, Teams) Experience with Accela to manage applications, workflows, and communication Strong communication and interpersonal skills applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. Compiling and analyzing data Preparing a variety of business correspondence Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously with excellent attention to detail. Conducting research and preparing reports. Required Experience Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Political Science, Geography, Public Administration, Architecture, or Economics from an accredited College or University, with at least one (1) year of relevant experience; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. #J-18808-Ljbffr ICONMA
