Project Director – Semiconductor Construction

Albany, NY | Base Build & Tool Install

We are seeking an experienced Project Director to lead complex semiconductor construction programs in the Albany, NY area. This is a senior leadership position requiring extensive experience delivering large-scale semiconductor fabrication, cleanroom, subfab, base-build, and tool-install construction .

The ideal candidate will come from a General Contractor construction background and have successfully led semiconductor projects through multiple phases—from major base-build construction and facility infrastructure through cleanroom buildout, process systems, equipment installation, tool hookup, commissioning, and turnover.

This is not a general commercial construction position. We are looking for a proven semiconductor construction leader who understands the unique challenges of building and expanding highly technical fabrication facilities.

The position will initially be onsite in Albany, NY . Once established on the project and operating independently, there is potential to transition to a hybrid schedule with periodic office and site visits.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide senior leadership for major semiconductor construction programs from planning and preconstruction through construction, tool installation, commissioning, and turnover.
• Lead both base-build and tool-install construction , ensuring facility infrastructure and manufacturing equipment installation remain aligned with overall project milestones.
• Direct construction activities involving fab, cleanroom, subfab, central utility, process utility, electrical, mechanical, structural, and specialty systems .
• Manage General Contractors, trade contractors, construction managers, superintendents, project managers, engineering teams, vendors, and other project stakeholders.
• Oversee construction sequencing between base build, cleanroom readiness, equipment move-in, tool set, tool hookup, startup, and turnover .
• Drive project safety, quality, schedule, cost, constructability, and execution strategy.
• Lead coordination of complex MEP and process infrastructure supporting semiconductor manufacturing.
• Review project schedules, manpower plans, procurement status, long-lead equipment, construction constraints, and critical-path activities.
• Participate in constructability reviews and ensure design packages can be efficiently executed in the field.
• Lead resolution of RFIs, design conflicts, field issues, scope gaps, change conditions, and contractor performance concerns.
• Coordinate closely with engineering, procurement, facilities, manufacturing, commissioning, and tool-install organizations.
• Maintain alignment between base-build infrastructure and individual tool requirements.
• Oversee contractor progress and hold project teams accountable for schedule commitments, installation quality, safety, and productivity.
• Support commissioning, system turnover, punch-list completion, startup, and final project closeout.
• Provide executive-level reporting regarding project status, cost, schedule, risk, contractor performance, and major decisions.
• Build strong relationships with client leadership and serve as a trusted senior construction representative throughout project execution.

Required Experience

• 10+ years of progressive construction leadership experience , with significant experience in semiconductor manufacturing facilities.
• Direct semiconductor fab construction experience is required.
• Proven experience managing both base-build and tool-install construction .
• Strong General Contractor background required .
• Experience leading large, technically complex semiconductor construction programs as a Project Director, Construction Director, Senior Project Manager, Project Executive, Construction Manager, or similar senior role.
• Strong understanding of cleanrooms, subfabs, central utilities, MEP infrastructure, process utilities, equipment installation, tool set and tool hookup .
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate facility construction with semiconductor manufacturing equipment installation.
• Experience managing multiple contractors and disciplines on fast-paced projects with overlapping design, construction, installation, and commissioning activities.
• Strong knowledge of construction scheduling, cost control, change management, procurement, constructability, QA/QC, safety, commissioning, and turnover.
• Ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership, engineering teams, contractors, vendors, and field personnel.
• Experience delivering construction in active semiconductor manufacturing environments is highly desirable.

Preferred Background

Candidates with experience working for major GCs/EPC/EPCM organizations delivering semiconductor fabs will receive strong consideration.
