AI/ML Engineer

About the Role As an AI/ML Engineer, you will build and ship applied machine learning and AI capabilities across Milo & Mew's platform. You'll take models and systems from idea to production: problem framing, data work, evaluation, deployment, and continuous improvement with real-world feedback.You'll partner with software engineering, product, and clinical leaders to ensure what we build is accurate, explainable, safe, and genuinely useful in day-to-day veterinary workflows. In this role, you will: Build and deploy ML and AI capabilities that improve clinical and operational workflows, such as triage support, summarization, routing, recommendations, and proactive care signals Own end-to-end delivery from data exploration and modeling through productionization, monitoring, and iteration Design evaluation frameworks that measure quality, reduce regressions, and improve reliability over time Work with structured and unstructured data, including notes, messages, medical history, and visit context Integrate AI systems into backend services and user experiences, collaborating closely with full-stack teams Develop guardrails and safety mechanisms for high-trust use cases, including human-in-the-loop workflows where appropriate Partner cross-functionally to define requirements, constraints, and success metrics in clinically sensitive contexts Improve system reliability through observability, error analysis, and thoughtful rollout strategies Contribute to AI-enabled product surfaces across our core stack, including: backend services in TypeScript and Node.js, data persistence and modeling in MongoDB, cloud infrastructure in AWS and/or GCP, frontend experiences in React, TypeScript, and Tailwind You might thrive in this role if you: Like shipping real products, not just experiments, and care about reliability as much as accuracy Are calm in ambiguity and can turn messy real-world problems into clear, testable solutions Think in feedback loops: measure, learn, iterate, and improve continuously Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical partners and incorporate clinical context into decisions Care about responsible AI and building systems people can trust Qualifications Experience building and deploying ML systems in production environments Strong foundation in applied machine learning, evaluation, and error analysis Strong engineering fundamentals and ability to work across the stack to get models into products Experience with TypeScript and Node.js for production services; ability to integrate ML/AI components cleanly Familiarity with MongoDB (or equivalent) and practical data modeling skills Comfort with modern cloud infrastructure on AWS and/or GCP Frontend familiarity with React, TypeScript, and Tailwind is a plus for tight product integration Bonus: experience with LLM-powered product patterns such as prompting, retrieval, tool use, evaluation, and guardrails What We’ll Offer You Competitive compensation and meaningful equity ownership Performance bonus opportunity (role dependent)Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage Retirement plan support with employer contributions (where available) No non‑compete agreements—ever Clear growth paths and leadership development opportunities Four weeks of paid time off Paid parental leave Paid company holidays Monthly Health & Wellness stipend Learning support for professional development (conferences, courses, continuing education) Discounted veterinary care and pet‑care benefits The chance to make a tangible impact on your team, your clients, and your community A collaborative team that lives our values and shows up for each other About Milo & Mew Milo & Mew is building veterinary clinics that feel better to walk into—and better to work in.
