Paramedic

ParamedicParamedics serve as the primary provider of emergency medical care and transportation for ill and injured persons in the pre-hospital environment.Reports to: Supervisor, EMSJob Specific Responsibilities:Functions as a sole First Responder Paramedic and as an integral member of an EMS ambulance crewSafely and expeditiously responds to the scene of the request for EMS assistanceEvaluates the patient(s), communicates the patient's illness or injury according to established medical protocols and pre-hospital standards of careSafely transports the patient to the receiving facility, and accurately completes all related documentationEnsures that all equipment and supplies are present and in working order at the assigned station and/or EMS vehicleAll other assigned duties related to EMSEducation and Experience:High School Diploma or GEDRequired Licensures/Certifications/Registrations:Texas Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic certificationBLS: Basic Life Skills certification by The American Heart AssociationClass C driver license with no DWI convictions in the prior 10 yearsSkills and Abilities:Practical knowledge of medicolegal aspects of pre-hospital patient care is essentialBasic medical terminology and pre-hospital patient care skillsEffective communicator, both verbally and in writing; Must speak English fluentlyKnowledge of the Lubbock geographical areas or the ability to effectively read GPS coordinatesInteraction with Other Departments and Other Relationships:This position will interact with patients, their family members, health care providers, members of public safety and law enforcement personnel, students, volunteers, and fellow employeesPhysical Capabilities:Frequently exerts a medium amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull and move patients or objectsFrequently work involves standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching and kneelingOccasionally work involves sitting, running, climbing stairs, climbing ladders and crawlingEnvironmental/Working Conditions:Emergency Medical Services provides crew quarters which are well lighted and ventilatedThis position is subject to adverse weather and working conditionsThe paramedic is frequently exposed to blood, and other infectious agentsOccasionally work involves the paramedic to be outdoors, in confined spaces, heights, underground, wet, and dry environment with a wide range of temperaturesFrequently work involves a noisy environment, and unusual lightingUMC Health System provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment on the basis of race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.*Request for accommodations in the hire process should be directed to UMC Human Resources.
