Job Summary:


The Registered Nurse specializing in Medical/Surgical care is responsible for delivering skilled nursing services to acute care patients. This role involves patient assessments, medication administration, treatment planning, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team. The nurse must be adaptable, able to float within the facility as needed, and maintain high standards of patient care in a fast-paced, level 1 trauma center environment. A minimum of 2 years recent acute care experience in Medical/Surgical nursing is required.

Responsibilities:

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and monitor patient condition.
• Administer medications and treatments according to established protocols.
• Develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
• Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care.
• Provide patient and family education regarding treatment and care plans.
• Float within the facility as mandated to meet patient care needs, including mid-shift float assignments.
• Document patient care accurately using Cerner electronic health record system.
• Adhere to facility policies and procedures, including infection control and safety standards.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
• Minimum of 2 years recent acute care experience in Medical/Surgical nursing.
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.
• Strong clinical assessment and medication administration skills.
• Proficient in electronic medical record documentation (Cerner preferred).
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, trauma center environment.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation within a 75-mile radius preferred.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience working in a Level 1 Trauma Center setting.
• Familiarity with hospital float pool assignments and flexibility in shift coverage.
• Local candidates preferred to facilitate commuting within the specified mileage radius.

Special Considerations:

• No holiday release time off (RTO) allowed.
• Maximum of 5 RTO days per scheduling period with no more than 2 consecutive days.
• No RTO allowed on weekends or the day before/after holidays.
• Mandatory floating within the facility; all nursing staff may be required to float as needed.
• Float assignments may occur mid-shift based on facility needs.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule consists of three 12-hour night shifts per week, from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM.
• Weekend work required every other weekend (approximately 2 weekends per month).
• No block scheduling; shifts assigned according to facility staffing requirements.
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week.
