Horticulture Specialist I Job No: 540517 Work Type: Full Time Location: Main Campus (Gainesville, FL) Categories: Facilities Operations/Skilled Trades, Veteran's Preference Eligible Department: 63520300 - FS-OPER EG GROUNDS-LANDSCAPE Job Description Participates in the Annual Flower Program, including flower unit counts, design layout assistance, and plant installation in annual flower locations. Provides routine maintenance of color locations with weed control, fertility, and soil level maintenance. Receives program flower stock and other plants, places them in the defined Annual Flower Program area of the UF nursery, and maintains these plants while in the nursery. Propagates plant material and maintains newly propagated material as required. Assists with maintenance of high‑profile landscape areas as directed. Operates state vehicles, which may include pick‑up trucks, heavy‑duty utility vehicles, trailers, and golf carts. Performs other related work as assigned. This position requires a post‑offer Health Assessment and Hearing Evaluation. Employee must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License. A Criminal Background Check is required. Work Schedule Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Salary $15.00 per hour, based on experience. Required Qualifications Completion of ninth grade. Valid Florida Class E Driver's License. Completion of a post‑offer Health Assessment and Hearing Evaluation. Criminal Background Check. Preferred Qualifications Basic gardening and landscape maintenance knowledge.
