The new 8,500-square-foot VA facility at 1289 Olympia Fields Drive expands access to VA care for Veterans in Milwaukee's western suburbs and provides another convenient option where they can receive outpatient services.

Veterans will have access to a variety of services including primary care, mental health and women's health at the new facility, which the VA hopes to occupy by the end of 2023 after a spring groundbreaking. The Oconomowoc location includes the convenience of many nearby amenities for Veterans and staff as well as easy highway access, while expanding the Milwaukee-based Zablocki VA Health Care System's footprint to the Lake Country area.

Oconomowoc will join Appleton, Cleveland, Green Bay and Union Grove as community-based outpatient clinics in the Zablocki VA Health Care System. The system's main campus as well as inpatient and other outpatient treatment programs are headquartered in Milwaukee.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs clinic will join several other health care providers in making Olympia Fields a health care hub supported by two area hospitals. The Advanced Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN) is the point of care for the Oconomowoc Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) and their function is to provide quality nursing care to a culturally diverse veteran population of varying complexity in a primary care clinic setting. The LPN possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively apply aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting.

Duties:

• Collects and labels specimens including phlebotomy, glucometer testing, stool guaiac, throat cultures and urine specimens.
• Handles accessioning and processing which would include pouring off specimens into appropriate lab containers, spinning specimens, storing specimens in the refrigerator or freezer as needed until specimens are transported by courier to the medical center.
• Cleans and maintains the lab. This includes having the lab ready for inspection and CAP survey. Cleans assigned exam rooms, procedures areas, equipment and work stations.
• Stocks and organizes supplies and equipment.
• Performs quality control checks and safety equipment checks.
• May perform dressing changes, wound care, 12 lead ECG, ear irrigation/ lavage, suture removal, bladder scans, placement of foley catheter if ordered and oxygen tank/adapter set up.
• Collects and documents patient data including vital signs, including weight, height, finger sticks and observation of overall patient condition. This information is documented into the electronic health records. Any abnormal values are passed on to the nurse and/or provider.
• May give preventative health maintenance immunizations as in Flu, Pneumonia, Tetanus, etc. hand out and explain use of cancer screening stool cards.
• Collects and documents patient information prior to provider visits (health prevention, clinical reminders, electronic health screen).
• Other duties as assigned

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday; 8:00am to 4:30pm

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.

Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
