Our Data Center Client is seeking an experienced Energy Marshal to provide onsite technical leadership for Control of Hazardous Energy (CoHE), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, system energization, and commissioning activities within an active data center environment. The Energy Marshal will partner with EHS, construction, commissioning, contractors, trade partners, and equipment vendors to ensure hazardous-energy work is safely planned, controlled, and executed.


Energy Marshal Responsibilities

• Oversee CoHE and LOTO activities during construction, commissioning, startup, maintenance, and operational readiness.
• Review energy-isolation procedures, switching plans, permits, JHAs, MOPs, and LOTO documentation.
• Coordinate energization, de-energization, testing, commissioning, and equipment startup activities.
• Verify electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, thermal, gravity, and stored-energy sources are properly identified and isolated.
• Interpret electrical one-lines, schematics, blueprints, and construction drawings to identify energy sources and isolation points.
• Support complex electrical infrastructure, including 120/208V and 277/480V systems, medium-voltage distribution, switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, batteries, generators, and transfer equipment.
• Conduct field audits and identify deficiencies or deviations from approved CoHE, LOTO, and electrical safety procedures.
• Participate in pre-energization meetings, readiness reviews, commissioning coordination, and high-risk work planning.
• Exercise Stop Work Authority when uncontrolled energy hazards are identified.

Energy Marshal Qualifications


Critical qualifications:

• 710+ years of relevant electrical, construction, commissioning, maintenance, or energy-control experience preferred.
• 35 years as an Energy Marshal, Electrical Safety Coordinator, Commissioning Coordinator, Electrical Superintendent, or similar role.
• Hands-on experience with LOTO, CoHE, electrical energization, switching, commissioning, or startup.
• Experience in data centers, mission-critical facilities, advanced manufacturing, semiconductor, or complex industrial environments.
• Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems and ability to interpret one-lines, schematics, and construction documentation.
• Strong understanding of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and 1910 requirements.

Preferred qualifications:

• NFPA 70E training/certification and OSHA 30-Ho
• Strong knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and 1910 requirements.
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction preferred.
• Electrical trade, journeyman electrician, electrical maintenance, commissioning, or comparable technical experience highly valued.
• Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Occupational Safety, or a related technical discipline preferred but not required when supported by relevant field experience.
