Emergency Management Specialist (Response)

Summary This position is located in Region 8, Response Division in Lakewood, Colorado. The ideal candidate has experience in a 24/7 operations center including situational awareness, information sharing, and emergency planning, with the ability to apply critical thinking and analytical judgment to complex emergency management, advise leaders, monitor incidents, and strengthen readiness. Responsibilities What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will serve as a Senior Watch Analyst. Typical assignments include: Applying critical thinking and analytical judgment to support 24/7 Regional Watch Center operations to maintain situational awareness. Collecting, analyzing, integrating, and disseminating operational information to support timely decision-making. Managing regional notification, alerting, and reporting programs. Developing, evaluating, or implementing policies, procedures, guidance, or program initiatives that improve coordination, information sharing, or operational effectiveness across multiple stakeholders, including Federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, or interagency partners. Developing and maintaining common operating pictures, situational reports, and operational products. Preparing leadership briefings, reports, decision papers, or policy recommendations on complex emergency management, incident response, or crisis-related issues. What else do I need to know? At FEMA, our mission is to help people before, during and after disasters, and every employee at FEMA has a role in emergency management. Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions. Shift Work Requirement This position supports 24/7 operations, and overnights and weekend shifts may be required.
