Remote Underwriter

Job Description

Guild Mortgage is seeking a Mortgage Underwriter with strong Conventional, FHA, and USDA underwriting experience. This person will be responsible for reviewing residential loan files, making sound underwriting decisions, and partnering closely with Sales, Loan Processors, and Loan Officers to help borrowers successfully navigate the loan process.

The ideal candidate is solution-oriented, customer-focused, detail-oriented, and takes pride in producing quality work with minimal errors.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Loan Pipeline Management

• Work from an assigned underwriting queue

• Review newly assigned loan files

• Review resubmitted loans after conditions have been satisfied

• Make underwriting decisions and issue conditions

Collaboration & Problem Solving

• Partner closely with Loan Officers and Loan Processors

• Help resolve borrower qualification issues

• Provide creative, guideline-compliant solutions when challenges arise

• Build strong working relationships with production staff

Service Levels

• Standard turn-time goal is 24-48 hours

• Goal is to review files within approximately 34 hours

• During peak volume periods turnaround times may extend to approximately 72 hours

• Team works together to ensure turn-time expectations are met

Skills and Requirements

• 3+ years of recent mortgage underwriting experience

• Current or recent mortgage lender/mortgage company experience

• Strong underwriting experience with:

○ Conventional loans

○ FHA loans

○ USDA loans

• Strong understanding of agency and investor guidelines

• Ability to communicate effectively with Loan Officers and Processors

• Stable work history with strong tenure

• Quality-focused with strong attention to detail • VA underwriting experience

• Previous mortgage processing experience

Non-QM or Jumbo experience
