Intelligence Specialist (Operations)

Summary About the Position: This position is in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Employees occupying DCIPS positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is with the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command, 470th Military Intelligence Brigade, Headquarters Detachment located in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Responsibilities Serve as the United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) theater Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) exploitation specialist. Develop tailored, focused, and time-sensitive products utilizing raw GEOINT data from a variety of sensors and sources. Recommend and defend major changes in emphasis which derive from higher echelon policy changes. Obtain information on non-routine problems requiring not only explanation or interpretation of facts but also discussion of implications and inferences in order to gain concurrence and cooperation to persuade to action. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes Producing Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) products; Providing input to GEOINT collection; and Providing input to the projection of future GEOINT requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS/GG-13). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Specialized experience is progressively responsible intelligence-related security work directly related to the position being filled. Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector or in another government agency as long as it was at a level at least equivalent to the next lower band in the series. Progressively responsible experience is that which has included intelligence-related research, analysis, collections and /or operations. This experience should have included intelligence analysis and/or production, intelligence collection and/or operations, counterintelligence, or threat support directly related to the position to be filled. This experience should demonstrate: Knowledge of intelligence processes, cycle and organizations; Knowledge of and/or ability to use research tools such as library holdings, photographs, statistics, graphics and maps; Knowledge of the systems, procedures and methods of analyzing, compiling, reporting and disseminating intelligence data; and/or Knowledge of organization(s) for and methods of collecting and analyzing intelligence data. Education Additional Information This position requires a 2 year trial period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
