The MIG/TIG Welder supports the fabricated materials welding department by welding a wide range of metals in accordance with detailed prints and manufacturing drawings. This role focuses on fabricating, welding, and fusing both small and large components, ensuring that all parts meet strict quality, dimensional, and tolerance requirements. The welder applies knowledge of material heat reactions, weld shrinkage, and proper setup of welding equipment to produce precise, high-quality assemblies in a fast-paced fabrication environment.

Responsibilities

• Weld, fabricate, and fuse various types of metals, including stainless steel and aluminum, according to prints and work orders.

• Perform TIG welding on both small and large parts while maintaining required tolerances and quality standards.

• Read and understand blueprints, manufacturing drawings, work orders, and weld call outs to determine weld locations, sequence, and specifications.

• Apply knowledge of material heat reactions and weld shrinkage to plan and execute welding processes that maintain dimensional accuracy.

• Fabricate parts to print in a timely manner, developing the best process for welding assemblies to optimize quality and efficiency.

• Set up welding machines and related equipment independently without assistance to meet job requirements.

• Check and measure dimensions during the welding process to ensure parts meet print specifications and customer standards.

• Grind and deburr parts when necessary prior to welding to ensure proper fit-up and weld quality.

• Check and straighten parts as needed to correct distortion and maintain required tolerances.

• Prepare all weld areas, including cleaning, fitting, and tapping with drill fixtures when required.

• Ensure all welded parts meet company and customer quality standards and comply with specified tolerances on the print.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area within the welding department and support a safe, efficient fabrication environment.

• Multi-task effectively by managing multiple jobs or assemblies while meeting deadlines and quality expectations.

• Collaborate with other welders, machinists, and fabrication staff to coordinate work and support production schedules.

• Successfully pass required weld tests by welding various sample pieces as directed by welding leadership.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of experience performing TIG welding in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.

• Strong proficiency in welding various metals, including stainless steel and aluminum.

• Ability to read and fully understand weld call outs, blueprints, and manufacturing drawings.

• Knowledge of material heat reactions and their impact on weld quality and part dimensions.

• Competence in basic math with an understanding of weld shrinkage and its effect on tolerances.

• Experience in welding processes and procedures, including proper setup and operation of welding machines.

• Ability to fabricate sheet metal and frame assemblies accurately to print.

• Skill in checking and measuring dimensions during the welding process to maintain required tolerances.

• Capability to set up welding equipment independently and adjust settings to match job requirements.

• Ability to grind and deburr parts, and straighten components as needed to achieve final specifications.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting company and customer quality standards.

• Ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience welding stainless steel, aluminum, and other sheet metal materials in a shop environment.

• Familiarity with frame fabrication and assembly processes.

• Ability to develop and refine welding processes for different assemblies to improve efficiency and consistency.

• Experience working from detailed prints and work orders in contract manufacturing settings.

• Comfort working with heavy machinery and equipment in a moderate-noise environment.

• Willingness to perform part preparation tasks such as drilling, tapping, grinding, and deburring as part of the welding workflow.

Work Environment

The role is based in a welding department within a contract manufacturing facility in Newark, CA that supports multiple industries, including semiconductor, electronics, automation, life sciences, and medical devices. The shop is a fabrication environment with a relatively clean workspace, shared with approximately 10 welders and 3–4 machinists across two shifts. The facility operates at a fast pace, with moderate noise levels and regular exposure to heavy machinery and equipment. The gate is often kept open, so employees may experience current outdoor weather conditions while working. The environment is focused on precision fabrication and welding, using standard welding equipment, grinding and deburring tools, and fixtures to support high-quality metal fabrication work.

This is a Contract position based out of Newark, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $37.00/hr.
