Certified Medical Assistant The Medical Assistant is responsible for clinical and administrative tasks within their scope of practice. This role supports care delivery by following established protocols to enhance patient outcomes, improve the overall patient and clinician experience, and contribute to cost-effective care. As a key member of the healthcare team, the Medical Assistant plays a vital role in patient interactions and operational efficiency. Essential Functions
Verify patient information by conducting interviews, recording medical history, and confirming the purpose of visits.
Prepare patients for examinations by performing preliminary physical assessments, including vital signs, medication reconciliation, and addressing care gaps.
Conduct clinical procedures such as venipuncture, ear lavage, and medication administration, along with proper specimen handling.
Perform administrative tasks including chart preparation, phone triage, appointment scheduling, referral processing, and form completion.
Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure secure handling of medical records, diagnostic coding, and procedure documentation.
Promote a safe and compliant work environment by adhering to legal and organizational regulations.
Manage medical supply inventory, place orders, and ensure equipment maintenance and functionality.
Contribute to the efficiency and reputation of the practice by taking ownership of tasks and seeking opportunities to enhance care delivery.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong patient-centered approach with a friendly and compassionate demeanor.
Proficiency in computer systems and software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel) with the ability to navigate EMRs.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
Familiarity with medical terminology and clinical procedures, including vital sign assessments.
Experience
2+ years of clinical experience, preferably in a managed care or healthcare setting.
Experience applying medical management guidelines such as InterQual, MCG, or other evidence-based criteria.
Prior experience working with electronic medical records (EMRs).
Education
High school diploma or GED required.
