Temporary Additional Educational Assistant / Instructional AssistantSupervisor: Principal, Assistant Principal, and/or TeacherTerms of Employment: Temporary (as needed throughout the school year - will need to notify HR if in the pool already or apply yearly)Wage Category: Non-ExemptQualifications: Associates degree, or at least two years of study (60 semester hours) at an accredited institution of higher education, or by passing the ParaPro Assessment (ETS.org). The minimum passing score on this test is 456. (Para Pro Assessment valid until August 31, 2026) *New exam available starting September 1, 2025 - Passing the ParaPathways exam. Reading & Writing (5758): minimum passing score - 332 Mathematics (5759): minimum passing score - 334 Prior experience working with children is preferred History of previous job experience required. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District Administration may find appropriate and acceptable.Job Summary: To provide supplementary services to a student or students with an IEP or 504 that delineates a need for individualized adult support related to behavior, medical, access to general education and/or instruction.Essential Duties:Assists in administering, scoring, and recording a variety of assessmentWorks with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacherAssists the teacher in devising strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students' needs, interests, and abilitiesOperates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposesHelps students access instructional materials assigned by the teacherFollow written plans and seek clarification when needed including but not limited to: student schedules, lesson plans, behavior intervention plans, job coaching for the student on supported employment placements within the community and community based instruction or work-based learningEnsure student(s) are following teacher directions and are engaged (i.e., use of visual schedule, following classroom routines)Escort assigned student(s) from one location to another (i.e., class to class, on/off bus, etc.)Prepare, organize and adapt materials to support teaching and learning as directedDistributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instructionGuides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacherAssists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, special areas, extra-curricular activities, and field tripsAssists with keeping bulletin boards and other classroom learning displays up to dateActively provides instructional support while the teacher is delivering whole group direct instructionUnder the supervision and direction of the teacher, provides instruction to a small group of students or a studentPerforms general classroom instructional activities (e.g., reads to students, listens to students read, checks notebooks, grades papers, and supervises testing and make-up work, etc.)Checks and records student attendanceAssists students with arrival, transition between activities and dismissal proceduresAssists with lunch, snack, and clean-up routinesAttend to assigned student(s) personal needs (i.e., toileting, feeding, dressing, feminine hygiene)Alerts the teacher to any problem, issue or concern related to a student or studentsIn the absence of the teacher, serve as the chief source of information regarding the student and assists the substitute teacher assigned to the classObserve and document student behavior(s) (i.e., altercation or outburst) and collect data. Maintains daily data collection.Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior expected by a fully licensed teacherMaintains confidentiality of information (i.e., psychological information, functional abilities, case history, classroom performance and behavior) about studentsParticipants in in-service training programs, as assigned.Actively supports the school's renewal plan through the activities and duties assigned by administrationSupervisors may assign other duties, as neededPhysical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
