Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic Job Description
The Maintenance Mechanic identifies and resolves equipment and infrastructure issues across processing, cooling, and packing areas in a food manufacturing facility. This role supports preventive maintenance programs and oversees plant systems, including mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and utility infrastructure. The Maintenance Mechanic works closely with Quality Assurance, Sanitation, and Production teams to uphold food safety standards, maintain equipment reliability, and ensure compliance with safety, sanitation, and productivity protocols.
Responsibilities

• Maintain personal safety at all times and consistently enforce the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment and infrastructure issues in processing, cooling, and packing areas.
• Follow established maintenance protocols, standard operating procedures, and equipment manuals when performing repairs and adjustments.
• Install, adjust, calibrate, and lubricate equipment components to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
• Perform basic hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical tasks to support the operation and maintenance of plant systems.
• Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Sanitation, and Production teams to troubleshoot equipment issues and minimize downtime.
• Ensure all equipment meets safety, food safety, and operational standards before returning it to service.
• Support safety initiatives, participate in safety training, and assist with incident reporting and continuous improvement efforts.
• Work in alignment with HACCP, SSOPs, GMPs, and other food safety guidelines to protect product integrity and prevent contamination.
• Assist with cross-training of team members and participate in special projects as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support plant operations and maintenance objectives.

Essential Skills

• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems in a production or manufacturing environment.
• Experience performing mechanical troubleshooting on processing and packaging equipment.
• Ability to perform light electrical work, including basic electrical troubleshooting and repairs.
• Experience with preventive maintenance practices on mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and the ability to perform basic tasks on these systems.
• Familiarity with food safety practices in a manufacturing environment, including HACCP, SSOPs, and GMPs.
• Ability to read and follow maintenance protocols, equipment manuals, and standard operating procedures.
• Capacity to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams such as QA, Sanitation, and Production.
• Trade school education or completion of a maintenance program, or equivalent technical training.
• Ability to perform general labor tasks associated with equipment maintenance in a food manufacturing setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in a food manufacturing environment with exposure to food safety and sanitation standards.
• Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and their application in daily maintenance activities.
• Familiarity with HACCP programs and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs).
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining safe, sanitary, and efficient operations.
• Willingness to participate in cross-training and support special projects to enhance plant performance.

Work Environment
This role is based in a food manufacturing facility that includes processing, cooling, and packing areas. The environment may involve various food-related smells and wet floors, requiring consistent awareness of footing and surroundings. Team members must wear GMP-compliant PPE at all times, which may include items such as hairnets, gloves, protective footwear, and other sanitary protective equipment as required. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, generally from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with work focused on maintaining equipment reliability and supporting production in an active plant setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Irvine, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.25 - $26.25/hr.
