On Call Biologist

This OpportunityWSP has immediate openings for On Call Field Biologists to support multiple biological surveys and environmental compliance projects planned in Southern California. This is an on‑call, as‑needed, temporary hourly position. Candidates local to Southern California are ideal due to work location and scheduling needs, but all qualified applicants will be considered. WSP also has ongoing biological monitoring, habitat assessments, and environmental permitting work in other states with additional upcoming opportunities.Your ImpactAssist with multiple biological field surveys and environmental compliance tasks, including:Conduct pedestrian surveys for wildlife, vegetation, and sensitive habitatsPerform habitat assessments, species inventories, and biological monitoringIdentify and document plant and animal species, including special‑status speciesRecord field data accurately using standardized biological field forms, including species observations, habitat characteristics, GPS locations, and environmental conditionsFollow established survey protocols and contribute to high‑quality data collectionWork effectively as part of a multidisciplinary field teamExercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company resources and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policiesWho You AreUndergraduate degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a closely related field0-2 years of prior field biology experience, such as wildlife surveys, vegetation sampling, or ecological fieldworkSelf‑motivated, physically able to conduct fieldwork in all weather conditions, and able to follow instructions and established protocolsStrong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey scientific information to both technical and non‑technical audiencesProficient self‑leadership with attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environmentAbility to work independently under general supervision, as well as collaboratively within a teamBasic proficiency with business writing, GPS units, mobile data‑collection tools, and standard office softwareProven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policiesAbility to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek, depending on project needsAbility and willingness to travel to project sitesPreferred QualificationsPrior experience conducting biological surveys in California or the surrounding regionFamiliarity with regional flora and fauna, including identification of special‑status speciesExperience with wetland delineations, avian surveys, herpetological surveys, or other specialized biological field methodsKnowledge of federal and state environmental regulations (e.g., ESA, MBTA, Clean Water Act)Compensation:Expected Salary (all locations): $27.55 - $34.43WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
