Primary Location: 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, Texas, 75074 Job Summary This is a non-supervisory, entry-level position for Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) sworn law enforcement officers at Collin College. The officer will ensure the safety and welfare of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors by maintaining peace and order, enforcing college rules, state and federal laws, and providing law enforcement protection and related services. The role requires overtime and on-call duties during emergencies as determined by the College and upholds the Mission and Core Values of Collin College. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Patrol campus grounds and buildings, checking doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are properly secured. Conduct preliminary criminal investigations, accident/injury investigations, and submit reports. Prepare criminal cases and present testimony in court; make court appearances as required. Write thorough and accurate reports on every criminal complaint, accident, or significant incident. Provide assistance to all students, faculty, and visitors, and respond to calls for first aid and medical assistance. Apply expanded skills related to analytical, technical, or operational processes to complete assigned work within own area of expertise. Work within standard operating procedures, adhering to quality guidelines and under moderate supervision. Enforce campus laws and parking regulations; conduct parking enforcement, write tickets, and guide parking directions. Conduct crime prevention programs and surveys for students, faculty, and staff. Work closely with college administrators to reduce and mitigate conflicts. Interface with internal and external contacts to carry out the functions of the position. May be required to take offensive or defensive action during physical confrontations. May be exposed to animal and human body fluids, emergency driving hazards, traffic control hazards, natural and man-made disasters, inclement weather, and extreme temperatures. Potential exposure to hostile environments, dangerous people, and the need to discharge a firearm safely. Operate motorized equipment and assigned vehicles safely. Maintain frequent public contact. Supplemental Functions Work extended periods of intense concentration reviewing crime scenes, investigations, and preparing law enforcement reports. Perform other duties as assigned. Adhere to college policies, procedures, and Core Values in all duties. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of state, federal, and local laws; current legislation; best practice; districtwide systems; organizational structure; state statutes; Board of Trustees policies; Police Department and federal regulations. Strong interpersonal and effective verbal and written communication skills. Innovative, comprehensive, and analytical thinking. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and police department software. Critical analysis of issues; supportive of department and college values, mission, goals, and objectives. Ensure compliance with department and college policies, orders, directives, and guidelines. Ethical and honest in interactions; provide quality control for services and documentation. Vehicle operation, clear vision, accurate hearing, and the ability to communicate detailed instructions. Physical visual acuity for low-light situations. Physical Demands, Working Conditions and Physical Effort Heavy work: exerting up to 100 lbs of force occasionally, up to 50 lbs frequently, and up to 20 lbs constantly. Includes talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking, repetitive motions, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching. Exposure to mechanical parts, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noise, gases, and workspace restrictions. Exposure to vibrations, chemicals, oils, unpleasant environmental conditions, and hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk; frequent physical effort required. Requirements Must have 24 earned college credit hours from an accredited college or university. Pass the DPS Concept 2 row test with 25% or greater. Pass a standardized written aptitude test with 70% overall or greater. Preferred: Two (2) years of continued police officer experience or two (2) years of military experience with an honorable discharge, or one (1) year as a military police officer with an honorable discharge. Chief of Police may waive college hours for lateral police officers with 15+ years experience. Licenses and Certifications Must possess a TCOLE peace officer license or be eligible to obtain licensure before employment. Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License and a driving record meeting CCPD criteria. Must complete Collin College Police Department’s field training program upon hiring. Must maintain TCOLE Peace Officer’s license throughout employment. Must pass extensive medical screening, drug testing, psychological exam, polygraph exam, and background investigation. Individuals hired may be required to drive a company vehicle; MVR will be run at offer and annually/bi-annually. Compensation Salary: $66,040.00 – $80,537.50, determined based on experience.
