Position Summary:

We are looking for a hands-on Electronics Assembly, Prototype & Maintenance Technician to support the manufacturing, assembly, repair, testing, and improvement of precision electronic and electromechanical equipment. The technician will manufacture cable assemblies and wire looms, build and rework circuit boards, complete selected mechanical assembly tasks, assist with prototypes, and help diagnose technical issues. The role requires strong attention to detail, good soldering and cable-building skills, and the ability to work from schematics, drawings, existing equipment, and sometimes incomplete documentation.

This is not only a repetitive production-assembly role. The right person must be able to understand how electronic and mechanical systems fit together, recognize assembly problems, troubleshoot issues, and help repair or reproduce equipment when documentation is incomplete.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Manufacture complete cable assemblies, wire harnesses, and looms for precision electronic equipment.
• Build cables from wiring diagrams, pinout information, BOMs, work instructions, engineering drawings, and physical samples.
• Cut, strip, crimp, terminate, label, route, secure, inspect, and continuity-test cables and wire looms.
• Build, repair, modify, and replicate damaged or incomplete cable assemblies when full documentation is not available.
• Crimp, install, remove, and inspect connectors and terminals, including Molex-style connector systems.
• Identify connector types, terminal types, polarity, pinouts, wire gauge, and routing requirements.
• Assemble electronic units, subassemblies, circuit boards, cables, and mechanical components.
• Perform PCB soldering, rework, repair, and component replacement.
• Install cable assemblies into complete units, ensuring correct routing, strain relief, connector orientation, clearance, and mechanical protection.
• Perform selected mechanical assembly of housings, brackets, mounts, fasteners, cable-management components, and other product subassemblies.
• Assist with prototype builds, low-volume production builds, modifications, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Perform basic electrical testing, continuity checks, inspection, fault isolation, and repair verification.
• Read and follow electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, BOMs, work instructions, and technical documentation.
• Use Altium-generated schematics, PCB documents, and BOMs as needed to support assembly, troubleshooting, and repair.
• Inspect completed assemblies for workmanship, correct component placement, proper cable routing, secure fasteners, alignment, electrical continuity, and general quality.
• Perform basic maintenance, inspection, repair, and rebuild work on company equipment.
• Identify common electrical and mechanical problems, including loose hardware, incorrect assembly, damaged connectors, poor cable routing, missing strain relief, damaged components, alignment issues, interference, and assembly errors.
• Disassemble and reassemble precision technical equipment safely for inspection, repair, modification, or component replacement.
• Document repairs, cable pinouts, changes, test results, assembly issues, and completed work.
• Communicate clearly when a drawing, part, assembly instruction, or process is incomplete or unclear.
• Follow ESD, electrical-safety, quality-control, and shop-safety procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and careful work area.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Basic practical knowledge of electronics and electronic components.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and basic assembly drawings.
• Hands-on PCB soldering, rework, repair, and component replacement experience.
• Experience building cable assemblies, wire harnesses, and wire looms.
• Experience with connector termination, cable routing, labeling, strain relief, and continuity testing.
• Experience using Molex-style connectors, terminals, housings, and crimping tools.
• Ability to repair or replicate damaged cables and wire looms when complete documentation is not available.
• Basic mechanical assembly and repair experience.
• Ability to use standard hand tools and basic electrical test equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot basic electrical and mechanical issues.
• Basic familiarity with Altium Designer, or the ability to read Altium-generated schematics, BOMs, and PCB documentation.
• Ability to follow detailed procedures while using good judgment when a problem is not fully documented.
• Good English communication skills, both written and spoken.
• Ability to document work clearly and communicate issues early.
• Careful, organized, detail-oriented work habits.
• Good hand dexterity and ability to work with small components.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2+ years of electronics assembly, prototype, repair, manufacturing, or related technical experience.
• Experience with both surface-mount and through-hole PCB assembly or rework.
• Experience with cable loom fabrication, wire routing, heat shrink, labels, strain relief, and continuity testing.
• Experience with prototypes, low-volume manufacturing, custom equipment, or field repairs.
• Familiarity with SolidWorks drawings or mechanical assembly drawings.
• Experience inspecting and repairing precision electronic or electromechanical equipment.
• IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, IPC/WHMA-A-620, or IPC-7711/7721 certification or prior training.
• Experience working closely with engineers to improve designs, work instructions, assembly processes, or documentation.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to use both hands with good dexterity for detailed assembly and repair work.
• Ability to work with small components, wiring, connectors, and precision assemblies.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to perform bench work, including sitting or standing for extended periods.

Key Hiring Requirements:

• This is a hands-on technical role, not basic repetitive production assembly. The candidate must be able to manufacture and maintain complete precision electronic equipment, including PCB work, cable and wire-loom fabrication, connector termination, selected mechanical assembly, troubleshooting, repair, and prototype builds.
• During the interview process, all candidates should be prepared to complete a Practical Interview Test where they will complete multiple hands-on tasks involving the Primary Responsibilities and Skills/Experience listed above.
