About the Role
The Company is seeking an experienced and collaborative Associate VP-Assistant General Patent Counsel to join its IP Transactions Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing a wide range of IP-related corporate business development transactions, with a focus on providing IP legal advice for manufacturing and supply chain transactions. This includes drafting, reviewing, and negotiating scientific and IP-related provisions in various agreements. The role also involves providing IP legal analysis and advice to cross-functional deal teams, particularly in the context of external innovation. Substantive IP due diligence, including freedom-to-operate analyses and patentability assessments, is a key requirement. The ideal candidate will have a J.D. degree, at least 7 years' of post-JD experience as a practicing patent attorney, and a strong background in IP due diligence within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology fields. Candidates for this role at the company should possess a Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) degree from an accredited U.S. institution, with a preference for those with a background in a scientific field. The role demands a high level of learning agility, creativity, and the ability to deal with complexity. The candidate should be a continuous learner, a creative problem solver, and have the ability to make complex legal and scientific issues understandable to non-IP legal colleagues and business leaders. Exceptional patent law acumen, business acumen, and the ability to balance legal risk with strategic business objectives are essential. The role requires a candidate with a proven track record of being an effective individual contributor, team member, and leader, and who can demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
