Shop Technician

Shop TechnicianAs a shop technician, you'll work to provide a clean, safe, and orderly studio environment for faculty to successfully teach in and students to complete projects. Your efforts will also help to continuously grow the ceramics minor.To support the department, you'll:Train students on the proper use of studio equipment and proceduresMonitor studio hoursManage loading, firing, and unloading of kilns and throwing wheelsPhotograph outstanding student workOrder clay and supplies and research new materials and techniquesYou will also:Manage inventoriesMix glazes and make clayCollaborate with ceramics faculty to meet studio equipment and supply expectationsSupport SCADextra workshops and SCADday programs, end of year exhibitions, and other special eventsWork with the ceramics club to host events and exhibitions in the studioMinimum qualifications: • Work experience as a ceramic artistPreferred qualifications: • B.F.A. in a related field • Experience firing ceramic works and with rakuTravel required: • Less than 10%Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
