Carpenter

Perform carpenter work at the journeymen level in plant facilities, including fabrication, maintenance, repair, and alteration of buildings and structures using a range of hand tools, portable power tools, and shop woodworking equipment. Responsibilities Fabricate, maintain, repair, and alter structures and components based on detailed designs, drawings, and oral instructions. Execute rough‑to‑finished carpentry on buildings, office partitions, scaffolding, frameworks, floor and ceiling tiles, doors, windows, platforms, and trim. Operate tools such as electric saws, routers, drills, planers, and both hand and power tools. Perform shop calculations for dimensions and select appropriate materials. Carry out maintenance carpentry, including repairs, installations, and general upkeep of building elements such as windows, doors, walls, floors, roofs, and furniture. Conduct preventative maintenance, routine repairs, and the restoration of damaged or nonfunctional components to normal operating conditions. Assemble, repair, and install hardware, furniture, and fixtures, and relocate or remove office equipment and other materials not fixed to the building. Fabricate wood, plastic, and composite systems such as cabinets, work surfaces, and frames for routine and recurring maintenance tasks, including stairs, decks, walkways, and dumpster ramps. Qualifications Ability to follow Argonne procedures, OSHA requirements, and general safety standards. Considerable skill in the use of hand and power woodworking equipment, machinery, and measuring devices. Strong ability to read and follow design drawings and specifications. Have a high school diploma equivalent, four years of apprenticeship experience, and four years at the journeyman level. Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork. The expected hiring range for this position is $29.75 - $46.41.
