POSITION TITLE: Lead Dentist

REPORTS TO (TITLE): Dental Director

SALARY RANGE: $190,550 - $216,300 DOE

Job Summary: The Lead Dentist works closely with the dental leadership team to ensure effective and efficient clinical operations of the oral health program. This role provides direct clinical care, clinical and operational leadership, including supervision of assigned dental clinicians, oversight of clinical quality, and support of day-to-day clinic operations. In collaboration with the dental leadership team, the Lead Dentist will assist in developing clinical standards and will partner with clinicians and clinical support staff to ensure adherence to organizational policies and delivery of high-quality patient care.


SPECIFIC TASKS/DUTIES:

Clinical Duties

• Provide diagnosis and treatment of dental center patients within scope of their license to practice dentistry.
• Record patient-dentist transactions as they occur in the patient's dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient, and the care or treatment provided.
• Educate individuals in the etiology of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health related disease prevention.
• Organize, facilitate, document and lead the dental clinician meetings, quality improvement/maintenance meetings, and other professional activities as required by supervisor.
• Provides back-up for dental clinicians on site to ensure continuity of care.
• Consistently demonstrates adherence to clinical standards, productivity expectations, and SRCH policies; serving as a resource to other dentists.
• Provide feedback and performance evaluations to those assigned as direct reports.
• Collaborate with clinicians to offer comprehensive care and create a strong team environment.
• Assist and manage complicated patient cases, including those with higher clinical complexity or disruptive behavior.

Administrative and Supervisory Duties

• Participate in regular leadership meetings to review clinical performance, patient care issues, and contribute to the development of treatment guidelines and protocols.
• Respond to staff and clinician concerns in a timely manner and provide appropriate feedback as necessary.
• Oversee clinical staff development, including providing opportunities for professional development in collaboration with the Dental Director.
• Supervise clinicians in collaboration with Associate Dental Director / Dental Director.
• Ensure compliance with dental policies/procedures with dental clinicians. Address non-compliance in accordance with SRCH policy
• Participate in and lead the clinician and staff meetings, quality improvement initiatives and training programs.
• Assist the Dental Director and Dental Leadership Team in strategic planning of dental services.
• Fields patient complaints and responds and manages variance and sentinel events as required.
• Assist with building, optimization, and training of staff on our dental electronic health record system. May become a clinician builder or attend additional training courses to meet this need.
• Identify and resolve daily clinical issues using a solution-based approach in a fast-paced environment.
• Attend meetings, conferences, and trainings at the direction of the Dental Director to promote the priorities of the oral health program
• Perform direct supervision of clinician clinical performance, including but not limited to chart reviews, quarterly clinician check-ins, annual performance evaluations, and performance improvement plans.
• Lead dental clinician peer review program.
• Participate in SRCH organizational meetings as needed.
• Provide oversight on equipment maintenance and repairs.
• Support the monitoring of compliance with all State and Federal regulations including but not limited to; OSHA, Cal OSHA, and Dental Board infection control guidelines and the Joint Commission.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Active California Dental License, NPI number and DEA registration required.
• California Radiation Safety Certificate required
• Current CPR (BLS) certifications required
• ACLS preferred.
• Minimum of four years of clinical experience is required.
• Supervisory or managerial experience preferred.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

• Requires a comprehensive knowledge of primary dental care in outpatient settings.
• Knowledge of the principles and practice of modern dentistry related to public health organizations and community health programs as well as current social and economic problems pertaining to public health and their impact on primary health care.
• Lead Dentist must be able to creatively work with other health care professionals from a variety of disciplines to achieve maximal productivity and programmatic effectiveness while continuously promoting the growth and development of fellow professionals, exercising appropriate supervisory control, and displaying good work judgment.
• Report any incident that is unusual or incompatible with accepted clinic procedures.
• Maintains compliance with HIPAA policies.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to be sensitive to people of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
• Demonstrated ability to give feedback to peers in a constructive manner.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize projects, work relatively independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
